The year after the release of their material “The Changing”, the young team WHERE GIANTS ONCE STOOD released new material, this time it is an EP “Live Above”. I made an exception to review the material but it let remain a secret of my and Jon from Asher Media Relations, because it is important what the band hid into this material. At least I would like make some promotion of this material, because at present the wave of modernist playing floods us. The wave more often is referred to by the prefix “post” and just WHERE GIANTS ONCE STOOD represents the trend known as Post Hardcore…

As more and more I listen to Post Hardcore, the more and more I am convinced to this music – its richness of arrangement, emotional volatility, multi-rhythmicity, multi-sound vocalism and of course heaviness combined with the delicacy… I just found all these virtues in the music of WHERE GIANTS ONCE STOOD, however the virtues are glued by virtuoso skills…

The sound is heavy as a supercompactor… the crushing punches… the monstrous growls and the hysterical screams seamlessly complement themselves with the melancholic-melodramatic singings, with the melodic and very spatial solos, which are very often associated with Power Metal … The frenzied and fast rhythms compete against the overwhelming slowdowns by creating polyrhythmic compositions… the devastating guitar riffs fight with the solos in the neoclassical style, sometimes giving way for the parties piano full of melancholy romanticism…

Music creates the aggressive atmosphere, the brutality and the fury but after a moment this music soothes by own gentleness and it snuggles with its sounds… It is amazing!
