There is no need of introducing the legend of heavy and progressive metal to anyone. So I will just add, that this album was originally released in 1999, by Atlantic Records. The re-issued version from 2006 is ‘enriched’ by four tracks, mainly re-mastered and live compositions.

‘Q2K’ is a very inconvenient album, full of changes and surprises. From country-like BON JOVI stuff (which definitely is the weakest part of this album, these compositions simply suck), through quite heavy rock’n’roll hard stuff, to heavier parts, but I would not call them heavy metal, not metal even. But ‘de gustibus non est disputandum’. The album presents very mature concept, not to say an aged one. Of course it shows, that the group has been developing and deserved its place on the music scene. The major part of the compositions is very melodic and pathetic (which can sometimes really annoy, because love songs are definitely too much), rhythmic and quite catchy. The songs are kept in a classic-like convention, pop even: going higher, staying on this level, and suddenly falling down, which makes it very predictable. And when combined with the low level of power, even less than average release, not so good as for the bigwigs of metal. But still, keeping the title of a star is hard work, and Tate knows about that, so he is doing his best. Definitely, the strongest point of this album is its variety, but still, this is not enough for such a band.

With ‘Q2K’ QUEENSRŸCHE showed, that they are tired, furthermore, their editor counted on easy money by re-releasing this album. At least they could have chosen a better one. But not to make it only a negative, I have to admit, that it is still a good piece of rock’n’roll, a heavier one. For listening with a bottle of cognac or wine.
