Finnish Black Metalers, SEAR, are back with a multitude of lineup changes and a new cd called “Lamentations Of Destruction”, their second full length on Dynamic Arts Records. They've changed singer, bass and guitar player and although their Black Metal Roots are evident, their sound reaches far into the realms of brutal Death Metal. The new vocals by H.Hyytiäinen can be screaming Black or growling Death, but SEAR now seems leaning more towards Death than the first cd. The cd opens harshly with some pounding Death behind screeching Black vocals. The growling Death vocals are a new addition and the rhythms are brutally heavy. “Heaven Ablaze” even breaks down into some heavy headbanging grooves. Add some furious drum kicking and blast beating to rattle the roof, along with gutteral deathgrowls and SEAR is planted firmly in the Realm of brutal Death. Then, constantly blast back to their roots with bouts of screaming Black Metal throughout each song. “One Throne” is a perfect example of the mix with a brutally heavy pounding, headbangin' rhythm and blastbeating Black Metal.
The entire cd is a pounding mix of heavy Death Metal and Black Metal roots and a splash of Doom here and there. It's freakin' brutality! The brutal Death Metal laid over the extreme Black background is an awesome sound that SEAR has captured. After becoming a Sear fan after the first cd, I'd have to say I like this lineup and cd even better and think Sear is heading in the right direction. Let's hope this unit is set and sticking together for the future.
