“Handful of rain” is the first album of Savatage after the tragic death of Criss Oliva. His brother, Jon, thought of giving an end to the band but in the end he made the decision to continue the band in the memory of his beloved brother. And even if Jon wasn’t an official member of Savatage at the “Edge of thorns” album he is said to have played all the instruments on “Handful of rain” despite the fact that this is written nowhere.

Talking about music, we have to say that this album is mid-tempo. 10 songs that look like the next step after “Edge of thorns” but so different at the same time. 10 songs that fans of power/progressive metal will love but I am sure they will be pleasant to every metalhead no matter their style preferences. 2 of these tracks are very well-known. “Chance” is the one as it showed us the new path Savatage were going to explore and “Alone you breathe” is the other which is dedicated to the memory of Criss.
do believe this is a very important album for Savatage and their style in general but if I had to recommend you an album to buy from the band that would definitely be “Gutter Ballet”. But listen to “Handful of rain” as it is a great album too!
