DANCE ON GLASS „Daydreaming”

DANCE ON GLASS „Daydreaming” - okładka

This is a project run by Dave Blomberg (New Model Army) and Anna Blomberg (former Batalion D'Amour). Dave takes care of the music and Anna sings. The main part of the music is electronic but some pretty heavy guitars also appear along the way. When performing live these guys get help from a drummer and a bass player but make it on their own in the studio.

Do you like the last couple of albums from Depeche Mode or Paradise Lost? Then I guess this Polish band is your kind of stuff! If you are a metal-head you'll have to be open-minded because you won't find that many crushing guitar riffs. Dance on Glass is all about atmosphere and arrangements. The music is pretty close to another Polish band, namely Artrosis. The vocals are more mellow and beautiful but there is one problem: the KGB-James-Bond-English accent shines through a little too much…

The music is catchy just like the bands I referred to earlier and maybe even more “radio friendly” (mainstream?). Goth bands such as this one tend to rip-off at least one riff/ arrangement from their predecessors. Just listen to track 3, do you recognize some parts that have been stolen from “Temple of Love”, that great song from Sisters of Mercy? Not only the music is similar but the sounds as well. Shame on you, guys!

Track 6 is in Polish and the language somehow clashes with the atmosphere and it all gets a touch of Polish folk music. The lyrics are interesting though: “…apathy hurts more than hate…”

Track 9 is a metal version of “Never Let Me Down Again” by Depeche Mode and track 10 (“Taniec Na Szkle” = dance on glass) is in Polish and I somehow recognize this tune… but I can't figure out what it is.

8 out of 10. This is an interesting album and the production part is great.
