“Kindred: Act I” is the first album of Canadians from Calgary after three years of existence and the release of several singles and EP.

I must admit that it was worth waiting for the full-length album through three years. The compositions are very thoughtful and mature. It is difficult to determine the genre of Metal that musicians from RED CAIN propose. Initially, I do not know why I was convinced that I will hear Power Metal. However, the sounds told me that is not. Of course there are a lot of melodies, easy to catch the refrains, but a multitude of other motifs also coexist with these melodies , often drifting towards Heavy Metal, Gothic Metal, and even Melodic Death Metal or Groove Metal with a large dose of modernist approach to arrangement. This all is expressed by the all-encompassing instrumental-vocal dynamism intertwined with keyboard and vocal nostalgia and melancholy and the futuristic features of electronic samples.

And in addition the wide range of vocals, from clean and emotional singing through rough vocals and to ending with shouting or even growling phrases, has been applied to such richly arranged music. Of course, this is a great asset of the band (especially the vocalist). Although their guest vocalists like Daniel Louden (BENEVOLENT LIKE QUIETUS) and Kobra Paige (KOBRA AND THE LOTUS) also added their vocal cords to this.

This multiplicity of themes and surprising twists and turns of the musical action makes that it necessary to repeatedly listen to songs in order to catch all the sounds in these music. Although each song is characteristic in itself, it has a specific theme, some characteristic melody or phrase…

The whole is very exciting and moody and at the same timeit is very energetic and even virtuoso.
