Don’t let the little woman on the front fool anyone. A few years ago, she became friends with three older friends from Philadelphia, joining to their band. From the very beginning, THE END A.D. as band basically revolved in the classic atmosphere of combining punk-core thud with Metal, i.e. Crossover, which they hook up with Groove Metal. However, the former vocalist gave them a very stylish tone, and it was basically nothing new. But now?
This petite, very charismatic blonde brings out strong screams, sometimes with growling scary accents and high-pitched hoarse screams (with the sound associated with Bobby Ellsworth from OVERKILL). In addition, at times she can soothe situations with minimalist singing or declamations.
Five songs! The very beginning of a very Hardcore Punk track made clear message that of course it would not be balladic and romantic material. On the contrary. The music develops with its intensity and vigor. Great stylish riffing, full of energy, dynamics with a great bang!
As it happens in the Crossover, the music combines Punk, Core and Metal (in their form Thrash, through Groove, even to Black / Death). Simplicity in rhythm, crazy dynamism, catchy melody and of course rapacity. In addition also classic, accenting, screaming male choruses. With the last song, the musicians showed that they can also create a more ominous atmosphere.
On the one hand, the music evokes aggressive and dark emotions. But on the other hand, it absorbs them, triggering the listener’s desire for headbanging, pogo or moshing, whatever you prefer.
PRO-PAIN or BIO-HAZARD are not only sole associations, because the band did cover of DEEP PURPLE. And their arrangement was heavier with thrash-groove performance. This piece reminded me old Polish band ACID DRINEKRS (from earlier years of existence).
There is power! There is energy! There is madness!
