CROSSOVER – Interview with Zion

Hello guys. I am Andrew. Congratulation for your debut album! I would like you to tell me a few words about you. Something like a short bio of yours.

The Crossover were born from the ashes of other bands, originally as Overload. With this name they gave a performance at the Tyherock Festival during 1989. The first line up was: Zion – vocals, Nick “Dick” – lead guitar, Savas M. – rhythm guitar, Savas – bass guitar, John – drums. During September of 1999 and with the addition of Kostas M. at the keyboards, they record their first promo cd. Changes in the band's formation follow creating the followin line up : Zion – vocals, Nick “Dick” – lead guitar, Kostas – rhythm guitar, Peris – bass guitar, Teo – drums. With this liine up they began public their appearances. They also, participate in the “Underground Darkness” collection of Sirrah Productions with 2 songs, while in the meantime they record 1 song on behalf of Woodstock Productions. During November of 2001 the line up is finalized and Crossover transform their music with a harder and darker sound. During January of 2002 they record at Nemesis studio and put into circulation officially in an independent production their first mini CD titled “Over The Cross”. Also, this mini CD gave us the contract with the French “Deadsun Records”. In August 2002 we record again in the Nemesis Studios our debut album, with the title “Debauchery ”. The criticisms up to moment are very good.

You managed to sign with Dead Sun Records only with a promo and demo release. I think the demo helped you a lot. Have you had any contract offers from other labels ? If yes, then why you decided to sign with Dead Sun ?

When we sent all the parcels with promos for labels we get feedback from many labels, 3 of them were ok to cooperate with us. We decided to sign with Deadsun Records cause of the homeland of this label and the second matter is up to the great distributors that have all over the world.

I think you should have paid more attention to the production and the artwork. The sound is bassy but the guitars are low and lack of power. That's my opinion. Did that happened because of money or because of lack of experience ?

Maybe you're right, maybe you're not, and we have many different opinions about the production of “Debauchery”. No! The production is totally that we decided as our production. We work on this sound many days.

Your lyrics are most considering about evil and religious matters. I can see a hard criticism of god. Is this only your personal point of view or you also want to lead people think about these matters ?

No, we are not demagogues and neither we want to say in the world what to make and where it believes, they exist so much many for this place. Our verses indeed have a disposal of criticism for the god, in point become blasphemous.

Your music is not pure Black Metal. There are also many thrash influences. Do you consider yourselves as a Black Metal band ?

No, we don't consider ourselves as something. We are just a metal band with a black veil in the whole project. We don't believe to the labels in the music. Also our name means that we have many influences of all the extreme sound.

How did you decided to cover Rotting Christ's “Sign of Evil Existence” ?

Sakis and Rotting Christ are many years friends of us. We believe on them from the beginning, till 1987. We decided a cover to them to give respect to their music and to their name.

Greek metal bands have recently released some great albums. But there is also a heavy underground scene in our country. Do you watch this scene ?

Of course, we watch and participate in the underground scene many years. Greece has as always a very strong underground movement. We support this!

You have many live performances since you released your demo. Now, with the album? Are you going to have a Greek tour or you will just play whenever possible?

Yes, we play whenever is possible, we don't have the worth to speak about a Greek tour. This period have many live appearances to Greece, and we speak with others like Ioannina, Agrinio, Patra, Volos, Larisa, and Crete.

That's all guys! Thanks for your time and good luck with your future plans!

Thanx to you and “Bleeding Chaos”, we just wish best of luck to everything. Vomit the cocksuckin' Holy Mother.
