OVERKILL, PRONG

Although New Jersey has the most awesome, rowdy crowds and clubs, I can't say it's a real hotbed for unleashing good Metal bands into the world. In all my years , there really is only one name in Jersey rock 'n 'roll for Tgod. Springsteen? Ahh no. Bon Jovi? Ummm no. Freakin' Bobby Blitz baby!!! It's been over five years since I've seen this Jersey Metal God and I couldn't wait to get there. Bobby has always been the man!! And in Jersey, Overkill is always a blast!!

I got there a bit too early and had to, painfully, endure two young Jersey bands. Dime-a-dozen Metalcore bands. Can we please seperate these two genres back to how they used to be. Metal over here. Hardcore over there. The state of Hardcore on the East Coast is pathetic and we shouldn't let it seep into our Metal world. The Metalcore crowd is pretty pathetic too. Tough to see the young Jersians this way. It's almost as bad as Jersey EMO. Ahhh. I puke on them both.
Thankfully a band called Magus Beast came out with some old school Power Metal and chased the Core kids away and set the tone for some good Thrash. I was very excited to see Prong. They're an old East Coast favorite and I've never seen them live, but have always been a big fan. They didn't let me down either. They picked up the pace instantly. They gave the place a major energy boost and kicked some serious butt!!! They did all their best stuff including their infamous “Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck” which is a Metal classic. They certainly got us ready for The Wrecking Crew!!!

Overkill hit the stage with “Deny The Cross” and Bobby and the boys looked and sounded as good as ever. With the addition of a new drummer, all the band were now New Jersey natives. The only Jersey band ever to be proud of. Hell yeah! Then, they exploded into “Rotten to the Core” and “Battle” and the surfin' safari began. Kids young and old were flyin' around everywhere. The pit was swirling and we were sweatin' and stompin'!! Wreckin' our necks!!! Yeah, they were kickin' ass!! Bobby has not lost a thing. He is still the man! “Necroshine”, “Long Time Dyin”, Blood and Iron” were incuded in the onslaught. “We are the Wrecking Crew”!! Hell yeah! Still screaming from the gutter. It was a dripping sweat. I was right under Bobby's mic and got some great pics. My friend Donna had never seen them live and she was within arms length of Bobby and….yeah.. she was in love. They did a rousing encore with “Coma” , “Old School”, and of course “Fuck You” to end it all with their most famous salute. It was an awesome performance and these guys are still kickin' ass and wreckin' necks. I was sore for three days afterwards from carrying on in the pit. Yeah, we're older, me and Bobby, but we're still there. Bobby still jumps into the pit with us and catches a wave. He is still the man.

Be sure to check out the gallery for live pics of both bands from this most awesome show.
