LUST OF DECAY – Interview with Steve Green

Just recently I had received a cd by the band Lust of Decay they hail from North Carolina in the United States. They play brutal death/ grind in the vein of Devourment, Lividity, and Dying Fetus. They have recently released their debut CD, “Infesting the Exhumed” on Comatose Music. Current members of LOD is, Steve Green/ guitar, backing vocals… Derek Haymore/ bass… Jordan Varela/ drums, backing vocals… and Jay Barnes/ vocals. This cd was a brutal assault on the nervous system with relentless bashing of instruments and some of the sickest hate filled vocals I’ve heard in a while. I got the chance to interview Steve Green the guitarist of the band, and here’s how it went.

The songs on the cd infesting the exhumed are brutal as hell, who comes up with the music and lyrics and what is the song writing process like?

Total chaos! We just get in there and start laying down riffs and drum beats, and get a brutal feel going. Then sometimes I'll work on the riffs alone, usually for the more technical ones. Then Jay will throw some sick ass lyrics on top of that. And that about does it!

Is there any type of tour in the works for Infesting the Exhumed?

No, we have no tour plans right now. We are just doing local shows and fests when they come up.

I see you guys have been through a few members. How do you feel about the line up now and what type of direction do you think the band is going in?

Yeah, things have been a little unstable as of late for LOD members. But I feel that we have an awesome line up right now. Our newest member, Derek Haymore is on bass, he is learning very quickly too! For now we are content with just one guitarist. We will resume our search for a second guitarist next year probably. All in all, I feel the direction of LOD will remain totally brutal and certainly underground!

What are you hoping to accomplish with the release of Infesting the Exhumed?

Our main goal with Infesting the Exhumed would have to be exposure. We really want to make a name for ourselves in the underground scene. So far it has been working in our favor too. The next step for LOD is to follow up the debut release with a better release. Kingdom of Corpses is in the works for our next release, and it is coming along very well.

What’s the underground scene look like in N.C. and how long have you been into the underground there?

There is a small underground scene brewing here in NC, bands like Pulsepherion, Apotheosis, and Malebogia also help to keep it festering. I guess I would have to say I have been into the underground scene here for a few years now at least… and in that short amount of time I have seen it strengthen somewhat.

What’s the next step for LOD and how are you planning on topping Infesting the Exhumed?

We are recording our new CD, Kingdom of Corpses in March and are hoping to have it released by the end of May. It will certainly be better than Infesting the Exhumed, especially the sound production, we are going for a much meaner tone this time, much thicker. The artwork is better, and so is the music in my opinion. So we'll see how it does. Of course, for all the latest news and killer LOD merchandise, please visit our website,
