HIDDEN „Spectral Magnitude”

HIDDEN „Spectral Magnitude” - okładka

Hidden is a mysterious doomy, death/black metal band. The reason why I said that they are mysterious is because they refuse to reveal any personal information regarding the members and origin of the band, so I don't know where they're from and who the band members are. But that's fine; I guess they want the music to speak for its self, which is cool with me. The music is quite slow and sluggish, which is where the doomy tag comes from. But there are faster parts, which are found throughout the album. When I first saw the album cover of Spectral Magnitude, I expected an atmospheric “space metal” band, something perhaps in the vein of Bal Sagoth or even Kovenant. The album cover, as well as all other imagery associated with this album, depict scenes of the cosmos, galaxies and out of this world planets.
Even the lyrics deal with the same topics, with songs titles such as, “Time as Eternity in the Cosmos”, “Formation of the Universe” , and “A Sounded Span of Time”. This is quite unusual for death/black metal bands, to deal with such topics. Nocturnus comes to mind, but that's about it. The album is rough sounding and so I would definitely like a more polished sound. At times Hidden reminds me of Morgion, especially during the slower parts, but there is lots of room for improvement to be at the same lever as the band mentioned. The one thing you have to remember is that Spectral Magnitude is Hidden's debut album and so the band has lots of time to evolve and grow. I'm sure they're next album will be much better, but this is not a bad start.
