HOFFMAN, WOJCIECH „Drzewa”

HOFFMAN, WOJCIECH „Drzewa” - okładka

This release is an all-instrumental disc from guitarist Wojciech Hoffmann who was recorded most of his work in the polish thrash/speed metal band Turbo. The work of Turbo is somewhat obscure, especially in North America (I've never heard it myself). But this instrumental disc is a far cry from thrash speed metal anyway, instead it showcases very brilliant melodies and guitar chops at various speeds that brings to mind other rock instrumentalists such as Joe Satriani or Steve Vai. This 13 track CD contains songs ranging from two and a half minutes to 5 plus minutes, so none of the compositions are terribly long or tedious.

I really can't find any information in English about his history, and the current website has not been translated yet. But I'd actually like a real copy of this CD as I only have a CDR. A few song titles do include 'Delhi' which is the opener, 'NYC', 'Jam Session', 'Irlandzki' and 'Sahara Express' which opens with a bit of southern twang – break out your conductors hat – before going electric. While the guitar is the predominant instrument throughout, there are touches of the standard piano and of course drums and bass.

All in all, it's hard to say much about a CD with limited
information. But this is a fairly solid effort from a relatively
unknown guitarist in the U.S. of A. I've been getting into a lot of instrumental music lately, or trying to get into a lot (still searching. I've been checking into a lot of Joe Satriani and this is comparable to his latest work STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL MUSIC and other guitar masters in many ways. DRZEWA makes for a solid listen if you are interested in this type of thing! Hopefully an English translation on his official website is completed soon!
