The legendary Maryland Deathfest has officially unveiled the first wave of bands for MDF XXII, set to take place from May 27-30, 2027 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s premier extreme metal festivals, Maryland Deathfest continues its tradition of assembling an eclectic lineup spanning death metal, black metal, doom metal, grindcore, and underground cult acts from around the globe.
The first announcement already features several exclusive performances, classic album sets, and long-awaited appearances from legendary bands, while organizers confirm that more than 70 additional bands will be revealed in the coming months.

The first announcement already highlights the diversity that Maryland Deathfest is known for, ranging from the progressive black metal experimentation of Enslaved and the avant-garde extremity of Akercocke to death metal legends Demolition Hammer, Exhumed, Sadistic Intent, and cult black metal acts such as Naglfar, Vreid, and Sabbat.
Particular attention will be focused on several special performances, including Akercocke performing their acclaimed album Choronzon in full, Enslaved revisiting their classic debut Vikingligr Veldi, and Exhumed celebrating the gore-soaked legacy of Gore Metal. Canadian sci-fi metal pioneers Voivod will also deliver a special old-school deep cuts set.
With over seventy bands still awaiting announcement, MDF XXII is already shaping up to be another essential gathering for fans of extreme music from around the world.
