Norwegian metal music normally sounds a bit different than that, if I think of a few black metal veterans… But if CROWHEAD are real metal, I really dare to doubt. Depri pop music could be the predicate as well. Similarities to U 2 you cannot dismiss. Here and there the music it is not bad, but a little bit too depressive for my taste. A little drive unfortunately comes with the fifth song for the first time. Wow, you really can listen to real guitar sounds. The falling asleep vocals are then really gothic. Anyway, „Fire Eyes“ is the best song on that album. Unfortunately the whole stuff moves always on the the same level referring to the song structures, the style of playing the instruments and the vocals. In any way, it is not very varied. Typically gothic are the lyrics, in any way: sadness and depression. A lovesickness suffering guy is better off with the in the year 1999 founded CROWHEAD. The debut album of the guys from Norway has a good production, even though it is the first real album, but it weakens because of the same sounding of all songs. „Frozen“ definitely is an album that could be put in the darkwave direction. Sometimes the tones sound a bit ambient and even technoid. And the whole opus can be devided into part 1 and part 2: The first 50 % of the CD is the metal part, the second the calmer part. Nevertheless there are a few really heavy guitar riffs for your ears, at least sometimes. This album can be listened by those who visit the Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig/Germany every year.
