WATAIN'S “Lawless Darkness” Wins Best Hard Rock Album at Swedish Grammis Awards

Swedish black metallers Watain have won “Best Hard Rock Album” for their 2010 album Lawless Darkness in the Swedish Grammis Awards (equivalent to the American Grammys). Released on June 7 through Season of Mist, Lawless Darkness is Watain's heavily hyped and critically acclaimed fourth studio album.

Frontman Erik Danielsson commented, “I always pictured the criteria for entering the Grammy awards to be those of mainstream music in general; conformity, insipidity and commercial potential. In other words, I was quite surprised when we even got nominated.” Though shocked at Watain's win, Danielsson acknowledged the hard work of himself and the band in his statements, and took the award as “that the artistry and infernal creativity that permeates WATAIN and this genre is being taken seriously.” In closing, he voiced his and the band's pride and delight in having received the award.

Congratulations to Watain on their momentous victory!
