POWERWOLF

Right after the tour with Nocturnal Rites and Gamma Ray it was a must for me to see Powerwolf live again! I had this opportunity in Illingen at Saarland/Germany, where the Romanian-German formation should play a concert. On the occation of the “Impression Musicale“ the quintet played their show. After two local bands called „Speed Bananas“ and „Dioramic“ (the first mentioned band should definitely replace the shouting frontman!), Powerwolf started playing their set.

With a lot of excitement that was spread in the air, they began with „Mr. Sinister” that also is the opener on the debut album „Return in bloodred“. The hall in shape of the „Illtal Gymnasium“ (a Grammar School) was full to bursting, yes, the event even was sold out and Powerwolf had to convince a quite unusual audience that night: mostly students of the school mentioned above that liked the songs and partied and headbanged – to my surprise. Powerwolf could entirely entrain with songs like „We came to take your souls“ or „Demons and Diamonds“.
Singer Attila pictured the exclusive men choir consisting of 15 – 20 bards that supported the band with the choirs with broken German. Also the people standing in the front of the stage sang loudly altogether.
The 5 transylvanian dressed guys (in proper style with their make-up; singer Attila Dorn furthermore with a bloodred cape) rocked a set that was about 45 minutes and included the whole (!) CD. And here´s the setlist:

1. Mr. Sinister
2. We came to take your souls
3. Kiss of the cobra king
4. Black mass hysteria
5. Demons & Diamonds
6. Montecore
7. The evil made me do it
8. Lucifer in starlight
9. Son of the morning star

The announcement fit to the outfit (translated from German): „Dear friends of the night, we killed a child!“ heralded the song called „Montecore“– and the fans were partying. I have to point out that the band acts very professional and they also act as a full team.
Very professional, but nevertheless they do not lose their naturalness. And even as there came up some problems at a time (the guitar sound of lead guitarist Matthew Greywolf suddenly was gone) the guys took it easy and so the time was bridged. Finally Powerwolf performed „Son of the morning star“ where Attila owned the stage alone. A lot of “We want more!” calls appeared. And so the topless male choir returned on stage and presented a spontanously sung “lalala” aria for three voices. The original can be found in the Bud Spencer/Terence Hill-Film „Watch out, we´re mad“ 
Totally seen: good band, good sound, good people. What else do you want!?
