MAYHEM WOLF'S LAIR ABYSS

Candlelight continues its cult reissue series (with releases already sorted from Ved Buens Ende, In the Woods and more) with the US release of MAYHEM's second most sought-after recording (only behind their legendary Deathlike Crush recording), Wolf Lair's Abyss. Originally released in 1998 for the Misanthropy label, Wolf Lair's Abyss bridged the studio gap between full-length albums just after the media started to “forget” about the band's criminal activities. It is the first time the album is available for US fans (previously only available as an expensive import or bootleg). Featuring the line-up of Maniac, Hellhammer, Necrobutcher and Blasphemer, it is an essential piece to the band's musical legacy. Officially formed in 1983, MAYHEM (their name coming from a famed Venom song) are considered by most an integral part of Norway's original black metal scene. Amongst their peers of the time (Emperor, Satyricon, etc), the band survived numerous line-up changes. 1991 would be the year that truly kicked things off with the suicide of then vocalist Dead. This only to be followed by then-bassist-later Burzum mastermind Count Grishnackh stabbing new singer Euronomous to death (crimes he continues to serve prison time for).
