The Album Art is an integral part of an album as it shows off the style the respective band is playing. Like you won’t find a picture of a rotten corpse for a Pop Album. Likewise, the moment I saw the artwork for the new Lucky 757 album, I was instantly sold. It felt as if the good old days of Surf Rock is back. Take a look at the art yourselves, you will find the beautifully portrayed artwork which screams SURF ROCK! Portsmouth, VA-based, modern surf band Lucky 757 pay tribute to the founding pioneers of the early rock n roll and rockabilly from the 50’s and 60’s. Their high energy take on American roots music nods it’s hat to the genres forbears – Dick Dale, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry and Gene Vincent. The latter sharing the same hometown of Portsmouth, area code 757.

The album flaunts a set of 10 tracks, all having its own purpose on redefining Surf Rock. The first track, Spanish Shore reintroduces the good old “show off your guitar tone”-esque intro. Positive vibes all over the track and the moment the track ceases it feels as if you get slammed to the shore. The presence of contemporary influences are evident and the band surely does know how to integrate them into their sound properly by keeping their original sound intact. Pretty wise indeed!  Lonesome Lagoon, may elicit hang tens, banana palms, gogo boots and Ennio Morricone scores, yet it is structured in a way that feels fresh and current – a modern take on the classic rockabilly surf sound.

The highlight of the album is obviously the Guitar work and the contemporary influences. Absolutely love the way guitar works take the center stage and while its there, it shines like a diamond. Let it be the slowly executed ballad, Reflecting or be the shredding in Belvedere Banzai, it is pretty neat nonetheless. I will be on a lookout for whatever the guys put up next. Lucky 757 is not Lucky, they are gifted and talented. They surely have a long way ahead of them. They might as well end being the modern pioneers of the genre if they keep up this momentum.
