The musicians from the Swedish PLANET RAIN made their mark in the world of music at the end of the last century as ZWEIHANDER. And despite the name change they remained faithful to their ideals music and they still walk the same path. Thus, what does the genre could play Swedish Metal band? Answers are various, but probably one of the most would be the same – Melodic Death Metal. It is true that men do not come from Göteborg. They live in Gavle but it does not matter …

“The Fundamental Principles” is the second album of the band and also the second part of the philosophical-musical trilogy based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft. And musically, the Scandinavian quartet presents us with a very mature and thoughtful album, in which parallel many threads are interwoven into the tracks, like the brutality, the heaviness and the aggression with the melody and the delicacy intertwined by the virtuosic themes and this makes the music takes on the characteristics of Progressive Metal. In addition, in some places there are elements of Black Metal in the form of the characteristic guitar-vocal demonstrations. Of course it is still Death Metal with its severity and aggressiveness, but softened by the some treatments… But this is just Melodic Death Metal…

The spatiality of the compositions makes you are not able to listening all the themes for the first time listening to the music of the album. So another time you will listen another musical threads, and at the same time you will not feel too much experience of the sheer volume of sounds. Although here we have a lot of them, ranging from the purely instrumental layers (the heavy and aggressive riffs, the climatic solos, the clean chord licks, the keyboards motives in a neoclassical style), through the rhythmic layer (the variously variable pace, the surprising accents) and ending with the vocal layer (the polyphonic growling, the screams and the clean multi-colored singings)…

To be honest, I am very curious what was the first part of the trilogy – “Antichthon” and what will be the last.
