STRATOVARIUS „Destiny”

STRATOVARIUS „Destiny” - okładka

I don’t know if Stratovarius are considered to be a great heavy metal band in USA but here in Europe and especially in Greece they are one of the best power metal bands ever and this can also be proved by their sales. If I said I don’t like Stratovarius, I would be a liar. They have released great album like “Visions”, “Episode” and “Fourth Dimension” but they have a great disadvantage. Their songs are very similar to each other and this is really tiring. Furthermore, their style remains exactly the same from album to album. So, it was unavoidable to have a very average release by them.

Yes, “Destiny” is that average release I am talking about. And average is a very lenient word. No improvement, just the usual melodic power metal songs. Ok, Kotipelto’s vocals are great once again, Tolkki is a very good guitarist but with a very specific style of play and the other members of the band are as good as we know. But there is a lack of something special. Something that will distinguish this album from the previous releases of the band. Is it passion? Is it inspiration? I really don’t know.

Stratovarius have proved us what a great band they can be and what a great releases they can offer us but unfortunately this release was very average as they did remain in the same old style they used to be. I wouldn’t recommend this album to you unless you are a fan of the band and you want to have its discography.
