I love the fact that we have a lot of bands that try to blend many genres ideally to formulate a different formula for their sound. However this formula might not work all the time. For instance, take a band that blend symphonic metal and thrash metal, not all would get satisfied as one might require more thrash elements and other might require more symphonic elements. Thus, balance is a key while formulating a blend. Such balance is kept by bands like Vektor (Prog/Thrash), Converge (Math/Hardcore), Arusha Accord (Math/Prog) and more.
After getting a tinge of Wolves Among the Hallow’s sound, I was instantly sold and began digging further into their Discography. WATH started out as a 5-piece Melodic Metalcore act in the year 2014 and slowly began experimenting with their style. This experimentation is clearly evident on their Self titled album, WATH released not long ago. Their sound is a blend of Thrash and Melodic Metalcore, thus they call themselves Melodic Thrash.
WATH show off their skills with this well crafted EP that has nothing but sweet souning melodies and heavy breakdowns. The opening track well utilises the 7 long minutes to show their style. With super melodic solos packed with a punchy breakdown, Adverse serves as a good album opener. Wolves: I followed by Virus and Woods is a track that taunt you to put it on repeat. This 8 minute masterpiece is an truly a magnificent piece art with a perfect balance between Metalcore and Thrash. Consequently, the album ceases with the sequel of the said song, which is more aggressive and face-melting compared to the former.
Overall, I pretty much enjoyed the EP and might revisit the album several times until I get bored. Following the path of their influential acts such as Sylosis and Trivium, WATH play a definitive cross style of Thrash and Metalcore which will surely keep all the Metal enthusiasts hooked. A more matured WATH will surely make an impact in Metalcore spectrum and might even make it to the Metal underground stardom. I can’t wait till these guys releases the next album, which hopefully will have more energy.
