Cool Songs: Rock forever, crusades, snake charmer

This is a review of AXEMASTER’S album “blessing in the sky” originally released in 1987. The album re-release has come after the band reformed in 2006. Now 20 years on it has been re-released as a new digi-pack. The album now features three extra bonus tracks and video footage from 1986. The album art has been redone as well. The album art has remained a castle, except now the castle is looking a little more ruined. 20 years has obviously taken its toll.

The album kicks in with the “the prophecy/Golgotha”. This just really sets up the album slowly building up for what is to come. The second track “Blood of the temple” kicks off the album properly” The pace goes up. The songs remind me of Iced Earth and IRON MAIDEN. This is mainly one for fans of power metal that follows the sound of IRON MAIDEN and old heavy metal. There is a bit of a thrash and speed element n the mix as well. Tracks like “rock forever” remind me a bit of AC/DC both for the lyrics and the riffs. “Heretical valour” is the first of the bonus tracks not to feature on the original album. The vocals are a bit deeper and rougher than on the previous songs. “Snake charmer” has a slightly eastern feel to it to fit with the song title. It’s quite a slow number in comparison to the other tracks. The final new track “the power” was probably my favorite of the new tracks. It has a heavier Sabbath riff to it. It finishes off the album at quite a slow steady pace rather than the solos and shredding that was present through the rest of the album, but works well.

Basically if you fancy an album that takes you back to the early metal bands and the bands that influenced them or else fancy a power metal album of the ICED EARTH variety you will probably enjoy this,

note: 7/10
