SABAZIUS „“Terror is Thy Name””

The SABAZIUS demo follows the trend of modern drone. It goes on too long with nothing actually happening. The main influences showing through are SUNN O))) and KHANATE. The guitar strums away at a snails pace for the majority of the song, just keeping a heavy down-tuned riff going. The song eventually starts to develop at the twenty minute mark. The rhythm then starts to change. The singer snarls out the lyrics. I’m not exactly sure what the lyrics are as the vocals have been turned down too low in the mix. That aside the recording quality is good for a demo the band has recorded themselves. Maybe if the song had only been the seven minutes at the end it would have been an alright listen, but as it stands there just was not enough happening to grab my attention.

However the demo is available for free if you get in touch with them through their myspace page. Part of my disappointment with this demo is that they have better songs on their page that were not on this demo. They are being saved for their first album release once they find a record label. These songs showed more promise, so maybe their next release will be better. This demo however is not something that will get listened too much apart from as background music. If you like long, depressing, drone music that goes nowhere in the vein of SUNN O))) then this is probably for you. Personally I’ll stick with something with a bit more of a tune.
