Best song: CD 1: Sister Moon, CD 2: Can´t pic one out…!!

Since Gotthard released their debut album in 1992, there has been happening much around the Swiss guys. Many, many great hard rock CD´s were born and have seen the light of day and that is why it seems to be time for a best of album. You can do that with 9outputs, one DVD and some single during 12 years. And they had a lot of good experiences: They were in the TV, had nominies for wellknown prizes, sold out headliner tours and they were blasting off the tops of the charts… It is just confusing that Gotthard put out already a CD called “One time one spirit”. But that first one was a clear “Best of Ballads”…

Now I am holding this new best of in my hands and recognize that it is a double CD, which makes us first happy with 19 songs of good old hard rock (CD 1) and finally let us come through the calm moments of Gotthard (CD 2, 17 songs)… You can find in those 35 titles 3 new pieces: “Fire & Ice”, “Inside out” and “One team, one spirit”. Furthermore there is an non-released version of the song “Everything can change”. In any case you can listen to the favourite song of the Gotthard guys.
Part 1 of that double album makes us happy with very different songs, from western influences (“Sister moon”), to hard rock (“Mountain Mama”), to reggae (“Eagle”), oriental stuff (“What I like”) and blues (“Why don´t we do it”) and to the typical Gotthard song (“Mighty Quinn”). The first songs are great stuff, but when you come to hear song 14, the CD begins to get weaker. It´s just a bit too much Gotthard… THAT song is in any case the opener “Sister Moon”!

The vocals of Steve Lee in “Fire and Ice” remind me so damn much of Jeff Scott Soto on his new CD! A killer! In any case I just felt like “Let´s go to see a concert!” They should do a tour with Crystal Ball!
Now I tell you something about the romantic side of Gotthard: Dream and relax! That is all I can say about that!!! Just listen to that by yourself! The little rough voice of Steve goes together well with the heartbreaking songs.

Great is “One life one soul” with the female opera singer Montserrat Caballe. Furthermore you can find a version of “Everything can change” in a piano version. Top song: Hm, I don´t know! All good!!!
Totally I can say, that was a hard rock not being a Gotthard fellow. But in the end I could find some new good songs, which I recognized from the tour with Uriah Heep (?). The songs go straight to the ear. Gotthard know how to get more fans with a best of album. I think, I will listen to “One team one spirit” some more often.

note: 8/10
