FAANEFJELL – This name is difficult to pronounce. And the title of the album – “Trollmarsj” is more difficult. Moreover the lyrics are in old Norwegian-Danish language. I did not know that such language has existed. Anyway the titles sound very curiously. The titles remind me a bit the titles from first albums of MORTIIS or from BURZUM (“Daudi Baldrs”). Although the music of FAANEFJELL is Metal doubtless with strong accents of traditional Scandinavian music.

“Trollmarsj” is debut album of Norwegian-Danish trolls which have an experience from several bands (like CUTTHROAT, EON, GRIVF). They invited several guests to recording this album. And namely Cato Arghamon (TRAIL OF TEARS), Ronny Thorsen (TRAIL OF TEARS), Frank Orland (ex – HARM), Daniel Sanden-Varg (ODD NORDSTOGA) and Audun Gronnestad (IMPERIA)… Moreover the whole of artwork was worked by Jan Yrlund (which also created for TYR, KORPIKLANI, STRATOVARIUS, IMPERIA and others)… Oh… Their surnames were difficult to write… “Trollmarsj” is the concept-album which narrates story driven out trolls by people from mountain Faanefjell and about wars among them for right to Norwegian mountains.

The music of FAANEFJELL portrays coexistence of furious Black Metal with Folk music. Sharp sounds and the motifs of Black Metal full of fury interweave with Folk melodies. The heavy guitars, the strong hits of drums and the furious screams fluently mix with the sounds of jew's-harp , the clean guitars, the violins, the keys as well as with the warlike recitations and the choruses. The crushing motifs of Death Metal emitting the brutality but and the melodics (like in Scandinavian Melodic Death Metal) appear among parts of pure Black Metal. The typically Folk subjects (which give the moments of rest) also appear among this Metal massacre.

The whole is very firm and courageous as well as creates dark-nostalgic climate interlaced by the fury, the madness and the despair. Trolls from FAANEFJELL made good work!
