Recently, Swedish masters of melodic death metal SCAR SYMMETRY announced the departure of their multi-faceted vocalist, Christian Alvestram. Losing such a talent definitely took a toll on the group, but they spoke with much optimism about the new vocalist. Life goes on for SCAR SYMMETRY, as it does for Alvestram. With “Your Demons-Their Angels,” Alvestram makes his first appearance with his new group, MISERATION. Considering his long career with SCAR SYMMETRY, one could make easily assume his new band sounds similar to his former group. This assumption holds true, but only in part.
Your Demons-Their Angels has much to offer to fans of SCAR SYMMETRY. Thrones opens the album with pounding drums and chugging riffs that closely resemble Alvestrams prior group. This technique continues throughout the track, and a couple guitar melodies and keyboards appear, which draws more comparions. This style appears throughout the album, along with other aspects of Alvestrams past endeavor such as the combination of clean and death vocals. Noctivagant and Perfection Destroyed present familiar Swedish metal riffing, too.
Where MISERATION truly separates itself from SCAR SYMMETRY is in speed, darkness and a more ferocious death metal stance. Most of the lyrics reflect satanic and dark fantasy ideas. Although numerous melodies appear, these parts merely set the stage for the ensuing death metal carnage.
Fans of SCAR SYMMETRY, especially those with a deep adoration for Christian Alvestrams vocal talents, who arent afraid of venturing into more extreme territories, should come away satisfied upon listening to Your Demons-Their Angels. MISERATION has created a formidable album based on the tenants of the modern Swedish death metal album. Youre Demons-Their Angels excels in the areas of creating strong, multifarious vocals, a hard-hitting low end, blistering paces, and drums that will knock your dick off or kick ya in the cunt!
