Wow, youngsters between 15-20 years old playing death metal… and signed to NUCLEAR BLAST. It is a kind of dream for each young musican? Propably yes, but for sure, HACKNEYED is quite promising besides their age. I am wondering how did they signed to NUCLEAR BLAST. But… ok just take it off.
HACKNEYED is a German death metal/deathcore band with a strong CANNIBALL CORPSE, SIX FEET UNDER influence. They might not agree with me, but it's not my fault that I'm hearing this kind of influence. Wait a minute, who dont want to be compared with such bands like these which I have mentioned? Exacly only a fool will.
Strongest point of HACKNEYED is ultra low, brutal and simply destroying voice of Phillip Mazal. His natural voice is so deep, so full of fury and cumulated energy. Sometimes his manner reminds me Chris Barnes voice, or even in the lowest parts Glen Benton from anti-popular DEICIDE 🙂
Not only vocals are good. Also quite well suprising is whole riffage of both guitarists. Crunchy, chugging, full of anger and specific death metal groove play is a highlight of the album. Brutal play of HACKNEYED guitarists is easily synthesised with really good blast beats, and with a result each of those elements give a strong and ready to slaughtering machine.
Moreover, HACKNEYED knows how to slow down, and have fun with the mid tempo. Strong and rhythmic breakdows are really enjoyable and flawless. Just feel it, just… being slaughtered.
By the way HACKNEYED it is not only the brutal and agressive band. These germand metalheads know how to create an intelligent melody, or with an electronic usement, melodic background.
Stay cool, and wait for HACKNEYED in your city. It is worth of it. believe me.
