Some people are tremendously rich, some are awfully famous, some seem to be born from a relationship between a man and a vegetable. But also there are people, who do not need all those ‘titles’ and would stick them where the sun does not shine. Those men have the true God’s spark (normally called a talent) and they play with the music. JACK DANIELS OVERDRIVE are one of those groups who fuck all the glory and shoddy star-stuff and play pure music straight from the bottom of their hearts, stomachs and… asses. They would have played music from the bottoms of their livers, but they do not possess any. God gave them talent but took livers instead, so that they could not kill themselves with the hectolitres of alcohol.

The album is “advertised” by a slogan: “Play from your fucking heart!” and JDO do it, they really do it. This music is deeply rooted in the human entrails, it bursts straight from the core of a man. This short EP starts slowly with “The Art of Demolition” and smites everything on its way with the powerful blow. The gentlemen from JDO represent the southern stoner metal scene, claiming that they are heavily influenced by women, whiskey and rock’n’roll, but it is clearly audible that such bigwigs as KYUSS, MONSTER MAGNET and BLACK SABBATH had a huge impact on them. This influence is clearly audible especially in lazy riffs and obese bass sections reinforced by massive drum fills. It is pure energy, straight from the American prairie, smitten by unbridled winds… from the area of Tennessee, where the whiskey river flows. The compositions are very varied, it is impossible to find something which appeared earlier. The rhythmical sections are extremely developed, especially the guitar solos, which simply pulverize with their subtleness [sic]. The melody is fantastic and it is possible to touch every singe sound, every tune played by the musicians. The psychedelic character transfers the listener straight to the land of where everything is possible. The motifs hammer from one hemisphere of the brain to the other crushing everything on their way. And they rage from very poetic and mysterious sounds building a specific climate, to furious and unpredictable sound. Everything embellished by a fantastic vocal by Wojtek, who does a tremendous job with his apparatus. His very deep, characteristic, strong and extremely powerful voice is one of the main actors of this play, titled “Pure Concentrated Evil”. Together with fleshy and lazy guitars, bombing-like drums and vicious bass it creates an astonishing stoner feast, straight from the Polish amphitheatre of metal. Polish soil gave birth to a bastard – but this child will do a lot of good things to its mother!

To sum it up JACK DANIELS OVERDRIVE are a kind of phenomenon in Poland, land of Slavic metal and bands influenced mainly by death or black. Stoner was not so popular here, but thanks to the guys from JDO it will gain at least 38 millions of fans. The music is not extremely innovative, but it has got soul! Just play it to your old man and you will be in great shock when you hear that he loves it. That is fucking right – this album contains all the plays that our fathers learnt from BLACK SABBATH, DEEP PURPLE or LED ZEPPELIN. It is one of its strengths and weaknesses at the same time: on one hand who needs all that stuff, but on the other… it is so cool listening to it! JDO brings to mind all the best memories and proves that old rock will never die. I’m glad that they have got no livers… Thank you God!
