TAETRE – Interview with Dr Lindblood

Once again Mighty Music attacks us with metal music. Again I must say that what presents TAETRE is very interesting and fresh for the metal ear. They recorded three albums, but this one is the best in their discography. Old death metal mixes with thrash influences. You've got to hear this!!!

Hello metal warrior! First, I must congratulate you on recording a very good album. But, why did maniacs have to wait almost three years for this album?

Hail! Well we now that maniacs like to wait. The more wait, the more bestial frenzy! No, we've had alot of small shitty problems that has delayed this release about 1 and a half year or something. We've had problems with rehearsal, and bigger problems with the the line up. And of course, our old contract had run out, and we took our time deciding what company to sign.

Let's talk a little bit about your previous releases, because for many people you are still young band. Now, can you describe your first issues?

Yeah, we are a 9 year old NEW band. He he he! We realeased our first album „The Art” on Emanzipation/Diehard in 98. And this album is in my ears a mix of melodic death metal, thrash metal and with stains of black metal in it. The year after we released „Out of Emotional Disorder” on the same label. This album is more mature I think, the songs have easier songstructure and are more thrash metal than the debutalbum.

You are the band, which has never recorded any demo in the past. Why? You don't think this suits promotion?

This is not true. We made 2 demos. 1 demo in 95 wich weas untitled, and wich is so fucking rare. Our 2nd demo was called „Eternal Eclipse” and this demo was made in 150 copies or something. So, yeah, this one is kindof rare aswell. „Eternal Eclipse” was released in 96 and the song „When winter came” wich later could be found on „The Art”. All the other songs are unawailableelsewhere.

You exist almost 9 years on metal scene. There were some rotations in your band during that time. Why did those guys have to leave TAETRE? Are you in touch with them?

Our bassist Conny Vandling was more or less kicked out of the band, due to his lack of interest. We have now D.K. doing the bass and he's a really cool guy who really fits into the band. Our old guitarist Danyael left the band himself due to a serious sickness. And of course his departure left the space open for new guitarist Maggot. We are still friends with both Conny and Danyael. We've known them for so long so it would allmost be impossible not to still be friends with them.

You see, I think that „Divine Misanthropic Madness” is your best album. What do you think about it now, when you've heard it so many times until now?

I would also think this! I think it's the most mature album we've done. It's the most aggressive and the hardest album we've done I think. It feels more Taetre instead of another copy I think. We've approached our own sound, and I think that is good.

Songs on this album are not new because they've been being written since late 1999…..

The songs are written between late 99 until late 2001. The thing is, that we kept all the songs we wrote and then picked the songs we though were best. So I can tell you that about 5 other songs were written but they didn't make it to the album. This is an advantage for our next album. Since we have so many riffs we will of course keep the best once and use them in the future.

I think, that this time you composed mostly melodic stuff, but still very brutal. There is more thrash metal in your music now, together with old school death metal.

I think the word melodic doesn't sound that well in my ears. When I hear that word I think of bands like Iron Maiden, In Flames, and all these shitty power metal bands. I don't think that our melodies have anything to do with any of these bands. Our so called melodies and more old school death metal. Yes, there are alot of thrash metal on the album and yes, also alot of ols school death. But this is because we love those genres. There's way to few bands who sound like that today. So we don't fucking care about what others do. We do what we feel is good!

The sound on „Divine Misanthropic Madness” is cleaner for me that previously on „Out Of Emotional Disorder”. Am I right?

Well that is your opinion. I don't share it. I think the sound on „Out of..” was a lot cleaner than on the new album.

You recorded „Divine Misanthropic Madness” in Los Angered with Andy La Rocque. Why this studio, and why with him?

We've allways used him. He's an utter pro at metal music. He is a really nice down to earth guy, and we've allways enjoyed working with him. The results has allways been good, and the studiotime has also been good. He's never been in command as some studioengineers try to be. In short. He's so cool so why change something that's working so good.

Andy plays solos in two tracks for you. How did it happen? How did he agree to your proposition?

Well Danyael left the band just weeks before the recording of the new album and I didn't have time to do all the solos. We asked Andy if he wanted to contribute with a solo and he did 2. Really cool I think.

But this is not all, because you elaborate with Tony Falencovich and Danyael Nilsson…. Why them, and what's they had to do with this?

His name is Tony Jelencovich and nothing else. Tony sings and plays in Transport League, and we've been friends with him for a couple of years. We've allways had guests on the albums and we thought why not have Tony on this album. But we went one step further, and let Tony in on the writting process on some of the songs. Just to get a 2nd opinion. Danyael Nilsson is our old guitarist. Didn't you know this?? He came to the studio and did a keyboard part on one of the songs.

You wrote very hateful lyrics for this album. Who is the author of them, and what are they telling about?

I write the lyrics. And yes they are a bit angry. They speak of killing ourselves and destroying the world, since it would be a better world if mankind was not there. This is the main thing that the lyrics are about. But I've can tell you that we are going to go further into the darkness of our hate on the next album. I will push it all into extreme!

You recorded „Divine Misanthropic Madness” for Mighty Music. And this is the first – so to say – fruit of the cooperation. How did it happened?

We knew Michael from Emanzipation. And well we decided to continue our work with him. No more no less.

Which one of you comes up with main riffs for TAETRE? They are very memorable! It's quite hard to come up with something new these days, when everything seems to sound the same.

Thanks! I do about 95% or something like that. I think it's only 1 riff on the album that I didn't write, and that is the riff just before Andy does his solo on Paradox. This riff D.K. wrote. It's a really cool Bay-Area sounding thrash riff.

OK. The gigs. Do you plan any gigs in the future?

We are going to do some gigs here in Sweden in December I think. Nothing is for certain yet, but it looks like it's going to happen. Then we hope for some kind of tour during early spring or something. We shall see what happens.

Great. We have to get to the end of this interview. Do you have any plans for forthcoming months?

Well as I said it's these shows here in Sweden, and I will probably continue writting more material. I want like 15-20 songs to choose from when it's time to record again.

Last words belong to you. Thanks bro.

Thanx for the interview. Go out and kill!! The Doctor
