BLAZE OF PERDITION – Interview with Sonneillon and XCIII

Blaze of Perdition is a band which brings strong, necessary values in Black Metal and is capable to deliver fresh yet traditional sound. All this makes them one of those most promising bands in the current world Black Metal scene. Although their history is short, they have already gained recognition home and abroad. To satisfy your curiosity read the interview below.

Blaze Of Perdition is a young band created in 2007. Before that you were active as Perdition. Why did you change the name and what did change with it?

S: We answered this question so many times, that I don’t want to explain it again. Perdition is dead and Blaze of Perdition is a new creation which is simply better in any way.

From the beginning of the band and till now already some line-up changes were made. Was that because of lack of interest in the band of former members or lack of devotion to the band and it's 'ideas?

S: Former bassist simply had nothing in common with Black Metal, so the reason is obvious, and X.O. left due to increasing ideological differences between him and XCIII.

Which current band members were also involved in above mentioned Perdition?

S: XCIII, Revenger and N.K.

Your debut album should come out in 2009. How do things stand? When can we expect the album?

S: After countless number of problems everything is fine now and the album should be released in January.

Can you tell us something more about this release? What can we expect from it?

S: You can expect Black Metal. Nothing more, nothing less. Sincere and passionate manifest of our beliefs. Surely something quite fresh on polish scene.

Who came up with the idea to release a split album with Pseudogod? You or them?

S: I don’t remember.

Some lyrics are in Polish and some in English. How do you choose in which language a certain song will be delivered? What is the difference singing in Polish or English?

S: It’s hard to say how we choose between languages. We don’t plan anything like „we’ve got X songs in English, so this one will be in Polish”. If we feel the song will sound better in one of these languages, we simply do so. Polish is harder to use in metal music, but it has its advantage, because it sounds much darker and harder than English.

I would like to compare a part of Behexen ťMy Soul for His GloryŤ lyrics and your text which appeares beside your logo on MySpace: ťI believe in one secret and ineffable Lord; and in one Star in the company of Stars of whose fire we are created, and to which we shall return; and in one Father of Life, Mystery of Mystery, in His name Chaos!Ť Is this coincidental or intentional similarity, maybe a common source which influenced both bands?

S: This fragment is an excerpt from the creed of E.G.C. and it obviously inspired Behexen too, but I see they paraphrased it and we used the original version. That’s all.

You have obvious satanic messages in your music. What is your relation to A. Crowley? And consequentially to Satan…

S: You mentioned Aleister Crowley as if he was only and direct relation to Satan. He surely does inspire us a lot, but he’s not our only influence. We’re inspired by many religions or beliefs.

Anyway, the Adversary is too complex subject to explain it in an interview.

XCIII: Yes, the fact is, that one must be dilletante to indentify Master Therion and Thelema with Satanism, nonetheless, his philosophy and worldview aren’t contradictory to this current. Of course there are as many Satanisms as Satanists and not everyone is into Thelema. I connect my Satanism with occultism and some particular values of A. Crowley perfectly fit into my point of view. I don’t call myself thelemite, but it’s a pretty important element in my syncretism, for the true will is similar to divine luciferian light and only by its realization, illumination can be reached.

Does consequentially Kabbalah play any role in your music?

XCIII: Kabbalah itself doesn’t play any role in our music. We are not involved in any hasidic mysticism etc. Of course Kliffothic Tree of Death is a kind of inspiration to us, but on lyrical theme only. If you gain an insight of our lyrics you can notice relations to Kabbalah, but only to capture the deeper meaning. We are far from writing Kabbalistic elaborates like for example Black Funeral. With all the respect for the mentioned, we think it’s meaningless a bit. I mean lyrics should be personal expression of one’s emotions, worldview etc., not a pure philosophy. If you ask about practice, we seek the lost luciferian light within ourselves. Kliffoth can be just one of the methods, like many other systems, philosophies and so on.

What do you think about Polish black metal scene? I was there probably at inappropriate time to catch some concerts, but still it seems that in other countries there is more concerts and activity. Is there any unity betwen the bands at all or do you stand alone, each band on it's own?

S: Our nation is very specific and so is our metal scene. We’ve got some really great hordes which are in fact as good as the bands of the world (if not better), but we also have an endless ocean of shit and it keeps getting bigger… or maybe it’s nothing special and every country’s got similar situation? Anyway, we belong to the scene, because we are an active band and we’ve got some friends there, but that’s where it ends. We don’t try to be “elite” or something like that, but we mostly just don’t give a fuck about the rest and try to care about ourselves, because there are too many in-crowds which I personally despise. Also, Polish scene is full of envy and gossip. One can learn many funny and ridiculous things about oneself, for example I recently learned that I’m a kike, haha!

Poland is still strongly influenced by christianity. What is your attitude towards that? Does it cause any problems to you as individual involved in black metal?

S: We’ve got some incidents, when members of Black (or rather “black” in that case) Metal bands marry their sluts in churches, so I think it can be pretty accurate example of how deeply Polish mentality is saturated with that shit. It’s an unbelievable absurd showing how many people are a just a bunch of unserious idiots (I intentionally avoid the word “posers”, which is being highly over-used by people, especially faggots I mentioned above). Such things only inspire me not to give a fuck about the scene as I said during answering to the previous question.

My personal attitude is clear and simple: I have no interest in any religion that is made of spiritual and mental restrictions. Nothing is real, everything is permitted.

It’s not christianity what is really powerful in Poland, but the church. Most christians are ignorants who don’t even know the basics of their religion’s history etc. The funny thing is that there are some so called “organizations” claiming they fight against Satanism, because they accused Nergal of Behemoth of desecrating their religious symbols or even some underground crust bands (due to a caricatural priest painted on one of the gig posters) of being satanic, but they don’t even know that real satanic bands play gigs many times a year and just don’t give a shit about those morons. Situations like that show how harmless christianity is to us. They can bark like dogs they are, but they will never bite us. Of course I appreciate any acts against this jewish cult, such as desecration etc., but one should realize they won’t destroy the religion itself.

XCIII: I couldn’t disagree with Sonneillon’s ironic statement. We are mature people, who are not a part of this rebel „antichristian” kindergarden. Our path is the alternative, not a pseudo-war. Why? Church and christianity are already rotten to the core and my contribution to this process wouldn’t be very significant – it would be a fart in the face of explosion of atomic bomb. Frankly, in a way I’m glad we live in a country with tendency for radically traditional thinking, for such situation quickly verifies, who is sincere and devoted and who is not. Second thing – society is a bunch of idiots and it needs a whip, a kind of authority to rule over, and deeply radicated religion with simple moral values is very functional in that case. Otherwise, this flock could get uncontrollable. That’s how it works.

Do you plan to have any live gigs in 2010 in Poland or abroad?

S: At the moment there aren’t any confirmed ceremonies. We would like to spread the Word abroad at last, maybe we will manage to do it in 2010? Time will tell. If anyone is interested in fair cooperation, feel free to get in touch with us.
