ESKAPISM – interview with Dmytro Zymobor

Eskapism is a unique project of two musicians from Western Ukraine, created in the spring of 2015, which represents a aggressive guitar riffs and drums inherent music in the genre of Black Metal, melodic and atmospheric keyboards arrangements, poetry on the grandeur of nature and the night, their beauty and originality. Except own poetry in the songs Eskapism incorporates poetic structure of various other Ukranian Poets as well. Following the release of their debut album, I had a chance to talk with the Founder/Musician of this Atmospheric Black Metal Band, Dmytro Zymobor. We talked of Satanism and other topics.

Its been over 5 months since Tales of Elder Forest. How hard was it to record this album with only one musician to help you out?

Actually it was not very hard cause we had a lot of time for first album preparation, cause no one heard about Eskapism before. We made the first song after the moment when I moved from my hometown to Lviv and it was “And You’re Talking By Runes”.  Maybe 3 months ago was born the second track “The Sad Moon Is Rising In the Sky” after this we had a long pause for one year. In the end of summer 2016 we’re started work on new material and in Autumn all songs were done and I’ve started work on mixing and mastering.

The Artwork of your latest album is beautiful and suits your sound perfectly. Care to share how you managed to get that Artwork printed?

I found one nice photographer from Sweden – Valkyria Nordenberg, her photos of nature were such amazing and I decide to write and ask her about chance to use it for our album.

Your artistic bio claims that you write your lyrics based upon Poetic Samples. Why did you choose this style in particular?

No, my lyrics – is my without any poetic samples, but in some songs you can find the poems of famous Ukrainian poets that I like.

What is your take on Satanism and Satanic Black Metal bands?

What can I say? For me it’s joke like christianity. I don’t listen to Satanic Black Metal, but I like antichristianity themes in songs (not satanic)

What’s the hardest thing you’ve had to overcome and how did you overcome it?

I think it’s time and my old computer.

I have seen a lot of people confused whilst generalising Death Metal and Black Metal. Being a Black Band yourself, How do you distinguish these two genres?

It’s lyrics, mood and sound definitely.

Care to share your favourite Gig Memoir.

On mind is Kroda “Kalte Aurora” Live In Lemberg II. It was very good experience for me and the first DVD where I played. The gig had 3 parts – Ambient chapter and 2 Metal chapters. In first chapter the pagan spirit was everywhere: on stage, in hall, behind stage in eyes of musicians and in the eyes of fans. It was a RITUAL show. Now available the audio version of that show and till the end of this year DVD should be released. I have another kick ass gig –  Steel Fest in Finland, 2016 with Kroda. It was my first abroad gig in country that I like.

Which song do you enjoy the most while listening as well as playing?

It’s “You’re Talking By Runes..” and “Wondering Winter” I guess. But I like all of the songs, “Chained With The Sorrow, Full Of Despair” – this story have a deep sense for me.

List 5 Atmospheric Black Metal Album for someone who is willing to explore this genre?

It’s hard, so I’m gonna tell you some bands that I can recommend: Summoning, Kampfar, Burzum, Drudkh, Kroda, Nokturnal Mortum, Skogen.

Do you think that online presence is important for fans to find you and critics to find your music to write about?

Definitely! We take attention on each feedback, review and analyze this. Also any fan can write to us on mail or via facebook. We read all the messages.

What’s next for Eskapism?

Now we already wrote music for new album, I’m working on it. Maybe till the end of this year we’ll release some EP or single, after that new album. Also in plans to get a full-live line up for gigs, but first – we should be sure that fans are interested in it, after this we need some promoter for gigs.

Thank You for devoting some of your valuable time on doing an Interview with us. On behalf of Metal Centre Crew I wish you all the very best for your future works. Cheers mate!
