Cool songs: The Good, Hope, Vanity

Another Italian band born for the metal world is the DREAMHUNTER. They describe themselves as guys playing Hard’n’Heavy music, but what is that “music” standing for, nobody wants to explain. After listening to their first album, it is obvious, that this music is simply… rock.

From the very beginning it is clear that this is a tribute to Hard Rock music. High-pitched voice of Gusmeri brings back old memories of good hard rock. And that is everything, because the compositions are rather dull (especially the first ones). They lack the power of heavy rock, there is no instant kick , everything turns on very slowly, but hardly ever reaches an appropriate pace. A little bit of speed and rawness would do pretty fine. The sound is mixed nicely, technicality is of very high standard, it is clear, that the band have developed a certain style and they stick to it permanently. As mentioned above, listening to the first part tires the homo sapiens sound system. There are some moments of relief, especially in “Hope” and “Can’t Get It Out”, where everything starts to sound like good old hard rock. “Can’t Get It Out” sounds very much alike AC/DC (this is a plus). And later on it is getting only better: hard and classic riffs, cool cooperation of vocal line and the instruments. Things are going fine, but the impression of hearing it somewhere before is quite strong. Those are good ideas for making music, but they were used some time ago. Not enough to draw the attention: it is too slow to be heavy. DREAMHUNTER are good at starts, but their finish is weaker. The songs sound schematic in the middles. Same riffs and drums lines. Only the vocal pulls everything on. “Vanity” is the last song worth mentioning: varied composition with style and motif changes. A cool finish of an average album.

This is a piece of classic hard rock with elements of heavy metal. It is simply too weak. The compositions are predictable and after a while simply bore. Even after the third or fourth listening. Only for the most tenacious.
