TYPHOID – Interview with Typhoid

Power scene of both Slovakia and Czech, you surely know not from today. However, it surprises us all the time with new things. Appearing every now and then of new names of teams. Together with young bands, comes specific freshness of realization, every now and again better technics, supported with very good ideas. One's own talents, musical use advantageously for scenes, for oneself, and I hope, that soon and for you. I invite so on collation of truth, with your divisibility of attention.

How are you bro? It is proper surely to exchange a couple of words on TYPHOID. Are you ready?

Hallo man, we´re doin´OK, it´s great to hear from you. I´m ready, let´s go…

Let me jus say in the beginning, how did you spend your New Year's eve?

We spent the New year´s Eve with our friends Embolism on a cottage. But it was not any alcoholic extreme…hehe

That's good. You guys exist as a band since 1993, you had to come out with a couple of albums. How do you rate your career up to this point???

We have been developing for all those years, from classical death metal to today´s style in the death/grind waters. Each record reflects the certain time of its´ originating, even when some stuff was released in addition…

In the beginning you had pretty big problems with the line-up. Over the time you changed positions in the band. How different is the current line-up from the one that you started out with?

We have had the same line-up since the very beginning. Jozo is the only person who had some problems, but they are gone. The advantage is, that we do not actually know what line-up problems and stagnations are.

About loam, I know that your band's demos were accepted very well in the underground scene…

Yeah, the demo was really well-estimated. It helped us a lot with the building of our band´s name. In fact, with “Intestines…” we have managed to penetrate into the world´s underground.

The demo from1996 came out recently. You don't think that some people will be able jealous of you, cause of “Intestines Of Immortality”?

Originally, we did not intend to release this material on CD, but Juraj has decided to meet the demand of fans worldwide, who were interested to hear Intestines… Therefore it was re-released in 2001 with bonus tracks.

You record frequently in the Exponent Studio, you obtain a very good sound there. But, why are you recording there the most?

The studio is technically very well-equipped and has a crew of good people who understand heavy music. We have it well proofed and really do not feel like taking any experiments.

You also have a debut full album on your account. How do you rate “Ruptured Self Control”, these days, with everything going in the metal scene. Would you change anything?

I would not change it, because at that time it was exactly what we were capable to record and I like this material. There are many opinions about this, but basically, I would not change it…

At first you had a record deal with France's Shock Wave Records. In the end however you signed a deal with Immortal Souls. What happened???

SWR offered a beneficial contract for us, but soon we learnt it was nothing but lies. They kept us hangin´for half a year and eventually, they just banned the releasing. Luckily, we have signed up for ISP, and that´s a comfort….

I know, that he is very satisfied with cooperating with you guys. How does this look from your side? Are you satisfied with his cooperation?

We are maximally satisfied with Juraj, he works out great things, does really a lot of work for us. He is a maniac and supports great bands.

For how many albums have you signed the contract with Immortal Souls?

Actually, we have not signed any contract, with our relationship with Juraj, all these contracts are sort of useless. We are satisfied and the things are working well, even without any official papers. We are not considering any change of label, because Juraj is a great maniac and his label is excellent.

Lately you came out with a MCD “Deoxyribonucleic Accident”. You placed there three completely new compositions. I must compliment you, because you still are in a very good form.

Thanx, it´s the newest material, I think it has gone out quite well in the studio. A pity, that there are just 3 new songs, you know, it´s only a MCD..

You also placed there two covers. I will ask you first about DYING FETUS. Why did you chose composition originating from their demo, and not from some regular album?

The song has been a cult for us since the release of the demo. It is a killing band!

Second is this cult AUTOPSY. From where did the idea come on reshaping one of their songs?

Equally, we have been listening to Autopsy for years, they are a huge band, this song is an anthem..

To the demo from 1996 you added a composition live as a bonus. You must like POSSESSED a lot… What do you play on concerts?

Possesed stood at the very beginning of our creation. We also have been inspired by “The Exorcist” remake by Cannibal Corpse.

This composition gave me one sure contrast, how incredibly you sound on concerts. On them you are more brutal than on in-studio albums.

The live sound is really good, there are concerts when the sound is good, on the other hand, there are unfortunately also the worse ones. We have quite a good shape in live performance.

And when the opportunity occurs of concerts. Do u play old songs? Would be of use to induce Juraj on some little rout, what do you think?

We only play the MCD now, plus some stuff of Ruptured…We do not play old songs anymore – a bit too slow for our taste. Juraj goes to concerts with us from time to time.

Often in titles of you compositions you use names of your band. Are you so attached to the name TYPHOID?

We have been inspired by the name Typhoid a lot, as a disease…but I haven´t understood this question quite well…we will never change the name.

I forgot to ask you this…What do you write your lyrics about?

The lyrics comprise all we dislike on today´s world..we put it all in the lyrics. People, killing…

Immortal Souls gave also material for JEEL. What do you think about this band and their music?

They are fine guys, playing more the old school death metal, their CD is Ok.

Why do you look so somehow politely on your photos?

Because we are christians! Aren´t you?

Will not surrender to hide, that one's own inspirations you draw from colleagues pals with tribe from USA. Who inspires you the most, and why did you chose just this kind of metal?

American bands are the most brutal in the world! This kind of music has penetrated deep into our bones. I can´t imagine I would not listen to or play such music.

Immortal Souls makes it possible for you to sell your own plates overseas?

Sure, Juraj has distribution all over this sick planet, who sell our stuff. Many people in many countries own ISP stuff.

From editions, extradition your of large album elapsed already a little of time. I suspect, that you have already some composed new material?

We have 5 new songs, which are much more brutal than anything we have ever released. It will be a delicious piece of brutality, but we have enough time.

When will you start recording?

We would like to record in 2003. In the meantime, perhaps some promo…

Will you differ on the next album? Will the material differ from your previous work?

I think yes. From the musical point of view, we have advanced a lot. The next album will be very different. More brutal and fast.

In the past year, what got stuck in memories, what pissed you off or disappointed you?

I was disappointed by religious fanatics, happy with good new bands. Music is still good. But the thinking of the world will most likely never change..

Do you have any goals for 2002 that you want to accomplish?

We would like to compose good stuff and play many concerts. Also to do some help in ISP.

OK. Splendidly, but its already time to finish our conversation. What would you want to say now to Polish fans of extreme music?

I would really like to say that there is a great death/grind scene in Poland. All in Typhoid like the Polish people, they are real maniacs and warm-hearted people. Thanx a lot for the space in your mag, hope it will go well. Support the brutal underground or not!!!
