WHERE GIANTS ONCE STOOD – interview with Reshaun Page

?Music is our life! We?re constantly listening to it, writing, recording, playing live. We love being surrounded by music 24/7!?

What about the giants did you mean forming the band name

The meaning of the band name is paying a tribute to our idols. We?re huge metal fans and we?re at the point where we?re paying our dues with the hopes of it going to the next level. The band name reminds us that ?Giant? bands today (Metallica, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold), used to be where we were and paid their dues to get to where they are today.

Is it a coincidence that you play the music, which recently is more and more fashionable on the world? For example, the Polish young band – ERIS IS MY HOMEGIRL. They won the competition – ?Must Be The Music? in the commercial television. It was a shock for everyone, because the band playing such brutal music won among the Pop, Rock, Disco bands…

It?s good to know that our genre is expanding and getting to the masses. Lots of people usually look down on heavy metal music, but reality is, it?s not going anywhere. It?s going to keep on being relevant and with the digital age, it definitely has the chance to make it back to the mainstream again.

The classic Metal slowly hides in a shadow, the same is with classic Hardcore. Generally speaking, the more and more young bands chooses a eclecticism for the creating Post Hardcore or Post Rock and Post Metal arrangements. What bands do inspire you? Do you listen to something classical (Metal, Hardcore or other music)?

We?re all fans of the new wave of American metal bands like Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, All that Remains. We also have a side where we listen to more hard rock, classical stuff as well. We take a lot from our influences and try our best to create something of our own.

That is why your songs contain a lot of classic themes. They are audible even in virtuoso guitar solos… such a breath of Power Metal…

Thank you!

?Live Above? is your second material. It is the EP with 4 tracks. Didn?t you have more songs for the full album?

We haven?t decided to work on a full album yet. We?re an independent band so we have to keep on releasing material to keep the momentum. We?ll probably keep on releasing EP?s once a year until the band gets to the next step.

But you included more the music’s combinations in these 4 songs than some bands for full-lenght albums… Your music is the great mixture of different emotions, intensity, melodies and virtuosity… The multi-thematical compositions on high level… The crushing music and at the same time the melancholic sounds…

Thank you! Well, all four of us have different influences, which sometimes clashes, but for majority of the creative process, it clicks! We want to put material out where the songs don?t sound exactly the same. Our goal is to take you on an adventure when listening to our music. Sort of like watching a movie, where?s theres different sections from the beginning till the end.

Speaking of the making music… How often do you meet at rehearsals? Once upon time the various bands has played in garages with old instruments or in the houses of culture for youth with rental instruments… And what is in your case? Today, all you need is money and you can buy anything, all instruments…

We meet up minimum once a week. Usually on weekends, or on the weekdays if we have shows those nights. We practice a lot when we?re together. We all saved up our life savings and invested in our personal equipment. We try to have the best quality equipment as this is the bands main assets.

About what is your lyrics?

On live above, the theme for the lyrics is a lot more positive. Pretty much facing really hard life related situations like bullying, making mistakes and overcoming those obstacles by being a better person and forgiving yourself, so you can move on with life.

Where did you play last concerts?

We recently returned from a 2 week Eastern Canadian tour to promote the new EP.

And have you some plans for a future concerts?

We have a few Ontario dates coming up for October, then going to the studio in November to record a special cover song!

I think it is secret so I will ask another qestion… What do you do every day? I think that music is for you more of a hobby and a passion…

Music is our life! We?re constantly listening to it, writing, recording, playing live. We love being surrounded by music 24/7!

Currently, the bands give more and more an access to their music by the Internet. Perhaps this causes that news of the band are faster diverge. But the other side of the coin is the fact that many people prefer to download music from the Internet than to buy the disc, which does not bring material benefits to the band. The means to keep the band are growing… That is the beautiful idea – playing for the people for pleasure and not for money? Perhaps at the present time there is no other way to rise above millions of bands?

Being in the digital age, it?s hard to be noticed, as there?s so many bands out there with the same goal. At the same time, it?s a good tool to really do a lot of work on our own with out the help of an label or manager. Every year, things change and grow, I?m personally curios to know what?s going to happen by the start of 2015.

I’m old school metalhead… I’m faithful to the ideals of the image of Metal fan… A long hair, the specific clothes, etc…. Of course if I work at my office I do not wear like metalhead but after work I do ? willingly… And at present what is with this type of cases for young fans of Metal, Hardcore? Many years ago the image, the view was very important to underlines the belonging to a specific group or the love for the band and at now I notice that it isn’t so important for young people… Really? Don’t you like it? Do you prefer look as drab man?

I believe image is very important! You can say it?s just a bit more toned down if anything. Music goes in cycles, so maybe the wave or long hair, spiked bracelets, and baggy pants will return one day!

I do not know what you mean by the wave, but I have some associations and additionally rather I thought of tight pants, but the taste is not discussed… So thanks for your time… If you would say something for the readers of the site, so this is a good place at the end…
