Country: Australia
Cool songs: Hate, Silence

SKINTILLA is an Australian Power/Heavy band. They are showing, that this desert like country is not only for the Aborigine music enthusiasts. If Aborigines listened to such music, today we would have had a Metal Mecca in land of kangaroos.

This demo starts quite strong. The powerful and comprehensible vocal reinforces the compositions very well. “Trust” very smoothly changes into “White Flag Down” which is also powerful. What can worry from the beginning is the fact, that this kind of metal, in the Australians performance, sounds rather dull. Yes, the riffs are outstanding and everything is dynamic, but sometimes it does not fit the heavy/power metal shelf. It is heavier, turns into the direction of thrash. I do not say that this is bad, but can annoy heavy/power metal fans, brought up on IRON MAIDEN or GAMMA RAY. The rawness of this album simply pulverises, especially “Hate” with those strong and charmingly fast riffs. The drums lines are also fantastic… the fills are in their places. But there is no variety in this album, the compositions sound very similar and everything gets boring after a while. The solos are out of space, very skilfully played and everything… but they do not kick the behind. “Shedding Skin” is strong and heavy, but it lacks one important thing, mainly, the character. “Silence” brings a slight change, a pathetic mood, Pretty sings with high-pitched voice, but this is the very end. Why on earth is not the whole album kept in such style?

This is an average production. Does not bring anything special. It seems that we’ll have to wait long to hear something pretty cool from the Australian continent.
