SHOW REVIEW – ROB ZOMBIE, LACUNA COIL

In 2005, I had the opportunity to catch Rob Zombie on an Ozzfest offdate perform at The Chance Theater in upstate NY. It was one of the best shows of the year, so I was highly anticipating this show on the eve of his new cd release at The Nokia in Times Square. I had listened to the cd before it's release and couldn't wait to see him live again. The cd “Educated Horses” is awesome.

I arrived in the city with my son and my best friend, Donna, as usual, and we got into The Nokia about halfway through the Bullet For My Valentine set. They were awful, so we were spared at least half the pain by missing half the set. I'm not a huge Lacuna Coil fan, but I am a big Christina Scabbia fan, so I was right up front with my friend, Donna, when they hit the stage. Christina is certainly the most beautiful woman in Metal and was a pure vision of loveliness tonight. They seemed to come off a bit slow though. They did some new stuff, which was heavy, but even my favorite song, “Swamped”, seemed a bit slow. I'd seen them before and they were better, but as long as Christina is there, they're o.k. They ended with “Heavens a Lie” and that was good, but we all wanted Rob.

Zom-bie! Zom-bie! The chants were thunderous!! When the lights went out, the intro to the new cd, “Sawdust in the Blood” started playing as an old film of a witch being burned at the stake was showing on the big screen behind the drumstand. The band appeared under blacklights, wearing glow in the dark skull masks and cowboy hats and blasted into “American Witch”. It was friggin' awesome!!! I was right up front and center. Rob was just an arms length away. They flew into “Demon Speeding” and the kids in the crowd started flyin' everywhere!!! “Living Dead Girl”, “Creature of the Wheel”. F**k Yeah!!!! The sweat was pouring now. A huge ten foot robot stomped about the stage for “More Human Than Human”. Rob was amazing and looked great jumpin' and stompin' about the stage. “Never Gonna Stop” and the new “Let It All Bleed Out” tore down the walls!! The amazing “House of 1000 Corpses” brought down the house for sure. Rob told a story of meeting a group of people at Ozzfest last year who had made up dances to all of his songs and had met them again here in NY, so he brought them out to do their new dance while they performed the new single “Foxy, Foxy”. It was a choreographed dance by a trio called, Bodycon, and was awesome. They took a lot of flak from Rob and the crowd, but I thought they were great. They didn't miss a step. He should keep them, I think. After that, John 5 kicked into Thunderkiss 65 and it blew the roof off, especially in the middle when he did a solo, playing “The Star Spangled Banner” with his teeth, a la Jimmy and then blasting into “Heartbreaker” by Led Zep. He finished off Thunderkiss and they left, only to be brought back out by thunderous chants of Zom-bie, Zom-bie! Hell yeah!! He continued the slaughter of The Nokia with “Superbeast” and “Supercharger Heaven”. Words alone can't describe how awesome this was. Then, the crowd chanted furiously to bring them out for a second amazing encore with “Dragula” and “Blood Milk Sky”. Unbelivable!!!!!

In my book, Rob has cemented his place as a Rock legend. Rob is a Metal God and he is far from over. The new cd will climb the charts and Rob will soon take over the planet.

Be sure to check out all of my awesome pics from the show in the Gallery.
