Mess Age is the name of a death/thrash metal act out of Poland on Conquer Records. The vocal work is your standard spoken with a growl style, it fits the release perfectly, while the drumming and bass tracks keep the pace heavy. The guitarists I feel are the true showstoppers herein, who throw numerous heavy riffs throughout SELF CONVICTED breaking the monotony of what could be your standard death/thrash affair into an ongoing display of musical dexterity. Listen to ‘Among The Empty Walls’, ‘Fulfilled With Nothing’ and the melodic leads on ‘C.O.L.D.’ for some excellent guitar-work on a release that is reminiscent of past works from Desultory (Metal Blade Records) from their INTO ETERNITY and BITTERNESS recordings.
If you like anything from Edge OF Sanity tp Florida’s Solstice (the death metal Solstice who released a heavy self-titled effort on Century Media Records) you will likely be able to headband to the madness of SELF CONVICTED. Where Mess Age could be another stale band in the death metal genre, the musicianship really lifts every song slightly out of the norm.
