A few things immediately caught my eye when I was holding this Ep. The firstone, the expandable cover-art of the digipack that shows a hand-painted painting by some Aitor Cano Zubiaurre. It’s not some high-class art, but it has its own atmosphere, a bit grotesque and a bit scary. Although it’s some strange colors. For me, it’s too much green contrasting with the bloody river…
But I am most interested in the music contained in the disc. And I must admit that I was positively surprised, because the work of this Spanish band was completely unknown to me before. And they have been in existence for over 20 years. But well, there are thousands of bands in Metal ocean and a lot of them yet to be discovered… But that’s wonderful in this my passion – discovering new bands and announcing them to the world…
After the express scrutiny of REDIMONI’s older work, I know that the band sticks to the designated path from the beginning, namely the style they practice is aggressive Thrash Metal, rather it is old-school than modernist, rather such with domination of aggressive and heavy riffs, fast licks full of fury and strong hits, with screaming vocals (wuth double timbre – one high – rough and hoarse falsetto, almost animalistic, and the other – screaming in a lower tone).
You can hear that their Thrash Metal is rather inspired by the German school like DESTRUCTION, TANKARD or KREATOR. But apart from that, there is an important element in their music, very clearly marked… Black Metal!
Yes, black-metal’s riffs in a specific, dark and ominous style woven into thrash-metal’s motifs give an interesting effect, which reminds me a bit of the Polish HELLIAS. And sometimes there is very black-metal’s atmosphere!
The whole includes some interesting pace changes, from very fast licks to slower themes and crushing slowdowns. In addition, these predatory riffs are enriched with melodic and crazy solos, and even here and there (marginally) atmospheric keys delicately emphasizing the ominous atmosphere.
There was also a dark interlude (in the last track), like a movie soundtrack before a thrash-metal storm.
Finally, it is worth mentioning the musicians’ nicknames. Hardly anyone uses such complex forms anymore. This accent further emphasizes REDIMONI’s connection with Black Metal.
