The band was formed in 1995 and I fear, that they will only exist, vegetate even, when it comes to Hungarian music scene. There is a problem with aversion towards any kind of rock and metal music. Unusual, really. Since 1995 the band managed to record two demos and this album is their first full-length one.

The beginning of ‘Unusual’ is quite unusual: those Voodoo and Aborigine-like sounds can really put in a trance. They create a fantastic, dark and mysterious atmosphere, this intro just makes you want to listen to the content of this album, one wants more and more. And when the main content reaches the ear, you frown and the fantastic first impressions is completely lost. The content simply does not fit to the intro (or the other way round, but who cares). Whereas the beginning of the album is kept in that gruesome atmosphere, the rest of the material can offer only a heavier version of a solid guitar play,, less powerful and dynamic, less melodic, though more chaotic. And the vocal also does not fit here. One of better compositions, ‘Ultrasound’, is kept in the similar mood as the beginning, the acoustic-like intro is the best part of this album. And later on there is the same old song… sung in the same old fashion.

The fantastic first impression is very important, because from this point it depends whether we will enjoy the music, or not. ABSENCE prove that such a great intro and impression can be spoiled by the content of the album. A great pity, because this album has high ambitions, although the performance and content bring it down to earth.
