I discovered Morgul (and a particular track from this album) one day whilst listening to my ‘radio station’ on Pandora.com. As soon as the track “Hategrinder” came on, I knew that I had to find out more about this mysterious band. Thankfully I managed to buy myself a CD and track down the band on MySpace (I think MySpace is taking over the world… it’s kinda scary!).

The vocals on this release vary from the usual rough ones expected on a Black Metal album, to the clean, almost Manson-like, melodic ones. (Note to non-Marilyn Manson fans: Don’t be put off by this comparison, the vocals are brilliant… I just couldn’t think of another vocalist to compare them to! I blame the cider I consumed last night!)

Certain aspects of this album really make it stand out from the crowd. For instance, the violin on the title track and on “Hategrinder” is a magnificent touch and the piano (or keyboard?) on “Sanctus Perversum” gives the track a fantastic ying and yang feel. One moment it’s completely calm, then it’s frantic. Light then dark.
