L.O.S.T. „Last Breath”

L.O.S.T. „Last Breath” - okładka

Romanian metal band L.O.S.T. released a demo back in 2005 entitled “Last Breath” via Meta4 Productions. The name of the game with L.O.S.T. is melodic death, however there seems to be a sludgy approach and darker, almost, black elements in their music. The vocals are of the screaming variety and lyrical content is your typical dark topics which shift between Romanian and English languages. The keyboards are used primarily for atmosphere and they are not brought to the forefront like say CHILDREN OF BODOM by any means. The riffs are tight and well executed but not groundbreaking. The drums aren't necesaarily excellent either but sufficient enough for the style. The bass keeps the band grounded but never really strays from the course giving off an almost lackluster performance.

The whole problem that I have with L.O.S.T. is that it seems they've attempted to cross brutal death and Gothenburg melodic death in an attempt to be groundbreaking. My problem with this, even though the two styles are spawned out of traditional death metal, is that everything seems to run very slow and often giving off a sludge doom appeal. The black elements mentioned earlier are most recognized in the atmosphere of the album. Combining all of these elements creates nothing more than genre-clashing tirades and not the worthwhile groundbreaking material that I'm sure they were looking for. Although in certain parts (albeit 30 seconds here or there) L.O.S.T. sounds fairly good, on the whole this is most likely something I'd try to avoid personally.
