It's getting to the point these days when as soon as I get a nu-metal album I admire the pseudo-gothic cover-art
by some cult underground artist I've never heard of, I read the props list hoping they plug some other bands I like, I scope the scowling promo-photo and then actually press play and as soon as the vocalist starts up-chucking into the microphone I feel like hurling the disc with great force into the wall where it'll slice into the wall and make a gratifying hum from the vibration once imbedding itself like a chinese star.

I just can't get past the 'death/nu-metal' vocals enough to even try to enjoy the music which I am sure in a lot of cases is actually pretty good. 'Bleed The Sky', a pretty cool name for a band. Even the album, is cleverly titled 'Paradigm In Entropy'. Oh, it's memorable alright, but maybe a just little insignificant, but it's catchy none the less. 'Bleed The Sky' may be a name you can remember, but, sadly their music isn't.

Don't worry though ‘Paradigm In Entropy' has some 'singing' bits tucked away here and there but as part of Bleed The Sky's larger multi-vocal barrage they are few and far between. On the whole the vocals are pure death-metal fury, like a rushing wind carrying the screams of the dead from the darkest depths of hell over-laid with understated melodic whispers that sit as a background to the intensity of the music. Which is great, if thats what you like.

These newcomers hail from Orange County, California, and they have one self-proclaimed goal: “to generate a new respect for metal through their musicianship, lyrical depth, melody, and unabated brutality”. A nice idea, no doubt, but these things take time and I'm not worried about waiting around to find out if they reach their goal or not. Founded by singer Noah Robinson and guitarist Moorman back in 2002, Bleed The Sky quickly grew in both popularity and quanitity as what members concerns, and already in 2003 they managed to land a gig with none other than Opeth. Quite impressive for such a young band, and it seems that maybe some part of the goal had already been fulfilled. In addition the band has secured a deal with the infamous Nuclear Blast, Looks like everything should be all set to go for “a new respect for metal”. Yeah… ok.

I'm quite sure that this type of music will appeal to many metal fans all over the world, but sadly, I'm far from being one of them. The style is somewhere around brutal hardcore, metal core, and thrashy melodic death metal, without ever being more than just a tad interesting. The opening track 'Minion' is without a doubt the best one, but from there it all takes a turn for the less interesting. For me this is just yet another run of the mill “cookie monster growling” band. If you're a fan of those, this might be right up your alley.

There is no question that ‘Bleed the Sky’ do what they do really well. But, there is absolutely nothing original about the music. Considering its sound is based on the much maligned ‘nu-metal’ vibe in the first place doesn’t actually have me doing back flips.

Take a whiff of this one folks. Inhale deeply and strong and experience the stench of mediocrity. It’s not a new smell.
You’ve gasped it before; and you will again in the future. The problem here is, is that the stench is more than
overwhelming. And be certain, it will sell by the truck load! As for me, I couldn't care less.
