Music: Stone Rock

Country: Holland

The first look on the cover art is an abandoned American pick-up truck, rusted out somewhere in the desert, lead me to assume that what I was about to listen to was a country music band. To confuse things I noticed the musician's names listed on the CD. Names such as Harald Te Grotenhuis, Alco Emaus, Benjamin Kip, not country music names. And then from the first notes from the speakers came nothing but Stoner Rock at its best! I realize that I had misled myself with assumptions.

Diggeth are from Holland and since I had never heard of them before maybe you'll excuse my mistaken assumptions. This CD is only 3 tracks long and has a total playing time of 15:11 minutes. Not much, but enough to acknowledge that Diggeth is a band worth watching out for. Although the sound is typically Stoner like, there are some moments here which are directly influenced by Thrash Metal. Think of it as a kind of stoner rock with a mid-tempo flair of melodic thrash. In other words, it reminds me of Metallica (in the vocals) and Black Sabbath (in the guitars).

The first song of the record is the title song of the album, which starts up with a guitar intro, while the bass warms
up in the background. A few moments into the son, all hell breaks loose and the stoner atmosphere really kicks in.
Second song of the album which is called “Heavy Heart” is far the heaviest composition of the album. Melodic bridges
and otherwise aggressive verses is the essence of this song, where no holds are barred. “No Man’s Land” starts in the exact same way the previous song ended. Still mid-tempo with a Hetfield-kind of vocal. There’s a short but awesome guitar solo in the middle of the song, which is reminiscent of Zakk Wyld's playing.

I don't listen to much stoner rock (other than Sabbath) but these guys do what they do well enough to cause me to open my ears a little more and give them a chance! All in all, pretty darn good combination overall. What is most impressesive is the sound of the guitar. It must be tuned down a lot to give it a really dark nasty sound.
