AGE OF RUIN „The Longest Winters Woes”

Let me just start this review by saying that this band fucking thumps. Age of ruin hails from the Washington, DC area of this great country. I had the chance to see this band play a small hall in New Cumberland, PA a short time ago and they where nice enough to give me a CD for review and I am very glad they did. The members of this band are down to earth and just a great group of guys who love the music they play and they play it with passion. The guys of the band are Daniel-guitars, Derrick-vocals, Brian-guitars, Colin-drums, Cris-bass. The music on this disc will not only send you into a thrashing frenzy but mesmerize you as well. This band is Americas answer to IN FLAMES. I know that being compared to IN FLAMES is an honor for the band but let me also say that in some ways they are a little bit better then IN FLAMES. Musically they are tighter then IN FLAMES. Daniel and Brian bring forth a driving guitar sound that would stand with any played today by anybody. Not only are they able to just crush you with there sound they are able to lull you into a sense of calm with a great track titled DIMMER that displays a haunting bit of violin work. Then they proceed to take you right back into the furry. The drum work on this disc is performed with precision and pummels your very soul to no end. Now for the vocal work. Derrick delivers a style of aggression with his vocals that is hard to come by in metal today. He brings it from within and does not fake any of it like a lot of singers do in this day in age just to get it done. The voice coming from this man will run chills up your spine.

All I can say is Anders Friden of IN FLAMES now has some competition. The mix and production on this Disc would make some of the bands of today cringe in fear of what this band is capable of. Over all this CD is the best from a new band that I have heard in the last good while and I have heard some good ones. I cannot wait to see these guys take the scene by storm and trust me they will just give them time. This band done really consider themselves new metal, heavy metal. just more of an extreme metal band but still they done want to be pigeon holed so all I will say about them is they are just fucking good music. This CD will appeal to anyone who is into IN FLAMES but expect to be taken to a new dimension by there sound. I cant wait to see what this band is capable of in the future.
