Quote: 9.3/10

Lately I've bought some music and between better or worse albums I found Angel Dust “Border Of Reality”.

The music which AD plays is a combination of Heavy, Power, Speed and Prog Metal (they’ve released 2 albums before, but in different line up and it was rather Thrash Metal). The whole record has got a very expressive progressive feel :-). It is quite visible especially in keyboard parts.

I must admit that this band surely has a great vocalist. Dirk Thurish is singing clear, sometimes high, very emotional. And when he screams in “When I Die” you feel his pain. The vocal is a true diamond of this CD. The guitars are awesome. Listen to intro of the title track!!! I love this kind of guitar work. Bernd Auferman shows us that his heroes were such guitarists as Ritchie Blackmore, or Yngwie Malmsteen.

Surely the best songs are the title one (with shreding guitars and great chorus), “When I Die” (with beautiful introduction and all the changing themes), “Where The Wind Blows” (one of the best keyboard licks I've ever heard!!). Although it is a complicated opus, Angel Dust made it clear and understandable. And here lies the biggest differenece between Angel Dust and the typical prog bands. Angel Dust doesn’t forget about power and kicks ass with every song. Some prog bands very often forget about it when filling their albums with improvisations. Here we can see perfect proportions of prog and power.

This album, the next ones too, is music for a person who wants to hear more than just a high speed happy power. A very strong release.
