“They say there is a witch in Arruda. Or is it something else?”

Dear friends of the machine, this newsletter it’s not mainly about music news from Portugal’s based trio MACHINERGY but concerned to band members Rui Vieira (vocals/guitar) and Helder Rodrigues (drums) parallel activities which, in a certain way, are linked to the band and, above all, their living place. They have just finished a short film titled “A Bruxa d’Arruda”, translated in English to “The Witch from Arruda”. Arruda dos Vinhos is the town where Rui and Helder live and grew up and this country place has just the most known and mysterious tale about a witch in the whole Portugal. They call it the Witch from Arruda. Some believe it, others don’t, as always in this kind of stories. With this precious material in hands, they decided to forge a story but not a regular and predicable one. The result is somehow perturbating, dark, and with a supernatural aura. “A Bruxa d’Arruda” will be premiered very soon (October 2016) in Portugal. “We had this enigmatic tale in hands and two choices to materialize it: making a conceptual record with MACHINERGY or a movie. Well, must say that, immediately, we chose the second option!” says Rui. “We all have these fears since little kids, like werewolves, witches and the dark. In a certain way, this is kind of a purge from those stories but more than that, for sure!” he finishes.

“A Bruxa d’Arruda” is about 10 minutes long and has a great mix of colors and tones. The film was shot in 4 days in a row at various spots in Arruda dos Vinhos and surroundings. Always in a subjective perspective, it’s the story of Paul W. Guedes, an investigator who visits Arruda after receiving an anonymous report about strange things happening in the town. The script and original idea was developed by Rui Vieira and both, Rui and Helder Rodrigues, directed the movie. The original soundtrack, named “Coisa” (“Thing”), was composed by Helder. After the making of a 33 minute long documentary in 2012 about MACHINERGY, this is an entire new experience for Rui and Helder. They both have the creativity, means and the will to make it happen! “Well, this is a new experience for us besides the metal music. We’re very glad with the final result and already thinking in the next one! Of course MACHINERGY is the main focus but these experiences endure and expand our vision of art in general.”

MACHINERGY are now back in business and composing some new tunes to be released in late 2016 as an EP to celebrate their 10th anniversary!
