Once upon a time there was a German band called MIDGARD, which trying to conquer the world of epic Heavy Metal. However, after several years of existence and recording three demos in the meantime, the line-up was changed and the name was changed to INNER AXIS. And it looks like it was a good step in the band’s career, as in the following years the band recorded two full albums, and now, after a slightly changed line-up, the two singles are circulating around the world. Each of them was released as a digital single and now they come as CD and vinyl. To the both songs are joined the guitarist Nino Helfrich (from IRON ANGEL) and the bassist Rich Gray (ANNIHILATOR).
The music is pure Heavy Metal, very energetic, driving and at the same time melodic, catchy. With characteristic bass guitar parts that at times clearly emphasize their presence, creating an interesting atmosphere, somewhat in the style of IRON MAIDEN. The same goes for the guitar licks and solos, melodic and sharp at the same time, a bit “Maiden’s style”, other times dynamic and predatory riffs in the style of JUDAS PRIEST, very catchy and stimulating. And the minimalist keyboards in the background gently emphasize the dark atmosphere.
Of course, the way of singing is also classic for Heavy Metal. Rather more melodic than shouting. In some parts, vocal’s timbre resembles the singing of Ozzy Ossbourne or Paul Di’anno, or the calmer vocals of Rob Halford. And the choires and refrains (along with atmospheric solos) contribute even more to catchiness and epicness, making each of these singles a potential hit on heavy metal charts.
Both songs are also presented in instrumental versions, which look equally great.
The artwork was created by Jan Yrlund, who previously also worked for MANOWAR, APOCALYPTICA, BON JOVI and KORPIKLAANI.
Professionally made music videos for these singles are also noteworthy. One of the music videos was taken by professionals Alex Popov and Danny McBride (producer and screenwriter of “Underworld”). In the video for “Steelbladed Avenger” was joined a whole galaxy of movie stars, Ellen Hollmann (known from, for example, “Spartacus”, “King Skorpin 4” or the upcoming “Matrix: Ressurections”), Stephen Dunlevy (known from, among others, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “John Wick 2″,” Logan”,” The Fast and the Furious: Hobbs and Shaw”), Scott Mcelroy (“Mad Dogs “, “Star Treck: Deep Space Nine”, “Underworld”) and Anthony De Longis (“Master of the Universe”, “Star Treck Voyager”, “Batman Returns”).
Only two songs and they can make a lot of noise on Metal world!
