The Spanish HORRIPILANT is actually just starting its first steps in the Metal Yard. In 2019 they released the demo-song “Falsified Spirits” and one year later the EP-cassette “Embrace the Obsession”. And it seems that they have now decided to release the previous material on CD and of course also in digital version.

From this trio, probably only vocalist-guitarist David Ochando played in other bands. But probably the most important thing is that the musicians do not combine, do not experiment or not look for any novelty, but closely follow what has already been created. In short, they go back to the roots, to the extreme Metal from the 80’s, as well as from the turn of the 80s and 90s, when Death Metal has been rising from Thrash Metal. Death Metal – has been emerging dingy, dirty, sometimes not complicated, maybe a bit chaotic and of course even more aggressive and even more dark…

Such is HORRIPILANT’s music! It almost resembles Thrash Death Metal from those years. The very aggressive riffs, cutting licks, short dark guitar melodies, and even sharp and psychedelic at times. The tracks with fast rhythms with moments of accelerations full of blasts or powerful slowdowns. The guitar sixteenth notes, double kicks drum, crushing guitars and percussions accents…

The drums are varied. On the one hand, there are in Punk Rock style, rhythmic and steady beats, and on the other hand, there are a lot of powerful passages, accents and sudden changes in rhythms.

Vocally… It’s stylish. Something between a predatory scream and a growling.

Listening to HORRIPILANT, memories of SEPULTURA from the album “Schizophrenia” or POSSESSED “Seven Churches” come to mind.

Something that distinguishes this material from the classic Thrash Death Metal are incidents of solo parts of distorted bass, which rather reminds the achievements of NECROMANTIA. In turn, the last track at times presented dark keys on the background of predatory guitars, as well as other riff structures (like in style of Thrash Black Metal) and a lot of technical solutions, especially on the bass, which definitely distinguished this piece from the rest. Honestly, I liked this song the most.
