Cool songs: Vice Jesus, Not a Word, With the Flow
The band was formed in 1998, and from the beginning their aim was to entertain public with a variation of old school hard rock combined with metal. Which is sometimes heavier, sometimes lighter. Swinelords is the third full length album, released by the Finlands almighty Spinefarm Records. Heikki Pöyhiä is also involved in Timo Tolkkis projects, will also appear in his metal opera Saana – Warrior of Light, somewhere in 2008.
Interested in glam rock, hairy BON JOVI or DEF LEPPARD metal? You will find many similar sounds on this album. Although it aspires to be a progressive rock, with melodic catch, disappoints on the level of innovation, which is represented by some hitting of the bell. The compositions are catchy and very melodic, will not shock anybody, but as for rock, or metal even, they completely lack power. What is more, are quite simple: easy riffs, with beat on four, choirs in their places, everything here sounds pretty pop. Fortunately, not as pop as BON JOVI, but still, this music would depress any metalhead. It is a heavier version of pop rock, it has nothing in common with metal whatsoever. This tune resembles the performance of boys-bands, but in a rock convention, with many progressive additions, which really enrich the whole. The technical level is high, the music is mixed well and everything works like a great machine. Plus that characteristic and very strong vocal. Thanks to those elements, this album is something more than just a simple pop-rock stuff.
Swinelords cannot be described in a few words, because this album contains too many elements, in plus and in minus, though those in minus take the lead. The best way to do it, is to say, that it is very good, that lightning does not strike twice the same place (hopefully).
