EVILDOER treads the same musical path as fellow countrymen, THE HAUNTED. EVILDOER’s “Terror Audio” is a musical creation of modern thrash borrowing a lick or two from thrash legends SLAYER, and combining it with hardcore vocals and breakdowns. Today’s bands prefer not to be put into a box, especially considering how loosely the term “metalcore” is bandied about, so a more fitting tag for the type of music they play is “modern thrash.” Categorical judgment aside, the level to which Evildoer plays is what truly matters.

If you are a fan of THE HAUNTED, you are bound to enjoy “Terror Audio.” Nevertheless, more often than not, the bands seeking to emulate their idols often fall a little short. Creating music at or above the level of THE HAUNTED is a tall task. EVILDOER, however, does display moments of brilliancy. The constant state of panic governments have kept their people in is address with conviction on ‘Fear Dot Gov.’ The breakdown riff will own listener’s ears and get heads a’ bangin’ when the speed kicks in at the end.

The guitar riffs and chorus lines of ‘Day of Torment’ will burrow deep into your mind and prompt you to press the repeat button on your stereo system. Andy proves he has the lungs to make him one of extreme metal’s elite vocalists on ‘Right Hand Servant.’ A blur of guitar picks and drumsticks provide a distance marker for Andy to reach toward with his tortured shriek.

“Audio Terror” is consistent in its audio attack, laying waste to the listener’s ears with thick, rolling guitars, mosh friendly rhythms, semi-automatic skin pounding, and panic provoking words. This album is quite good, but a number of bands started doing the same thing in the last couple of years, which makes it hard to give the praise this band deserves. It will be interesting to see what direction the band will take on future endevors. If they can take a step out of the shadow of its proverbial big brother, THE HAUNTED, these Swedes will create something special!
